Big Matches
The televised action begins at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium where Atlanta United will be eager to put their damp squib of a loss to Austin FC behind them when they play host to Real Salt Lake. The second game sees Inter Miami taking on a Philadelphia Union side who must be buzzing after their 7-0 win over DC United last time out. The last TV game sees two of the teams from California going at it when LA Galaxy will look to bounce back from their ‘El Trafico’ defeat when they host a San Jose Earthquakes side who won’t be short in motivation here.
Best of the Rest
In terms of actual rivalry matches there aren’t too many this week but one match which does catch the eye is the one between FC Dallas and the champions New York City FC which sees two of the better attacking units in MLS going at it. Another appealing match is the Western Conference clash between the Colorado Rapids and Orlando City SC. Attention might well be on Audi Field though as Wayne Rooney gets a first look at his DC United side when they host the 2020 champions Columbus Crew. Some big names will be on show when Chicago Fire host Toronto FC while FC Cincinnati take on Vancouver Whitecaps in another good looking game.
Betting
After a winner in the match on Tuesday evening I’ll go with one over the course of Wednesday night and it comes in the opening game as Atlanta United take on Real Salt Lake in a game which I don’t think I’m rewriting logic to expect goals from. We saw on Saturday that this Atlanta defence looks as fragile as any in MLS although to be fair we have seen that for quite a while now as their injuries continue to kill them. There is no reason to think Real Salt Lake won’t be able or willing to take advantage of that.
Josef Martinez came out with some stinging comments about his team and teammates after that loss to Austin on Saturday so you would imagine that will bring about a big performance from the Five Stripes here, particularly in the attacking areas, which to be fair isn’t usually an issue for Atlanta on their home patch. RSL have only kept two clean sheets on their travels this season, one in Houston who were goal shy at the time and the other in Portland who were suffering with injuries then. The potential for goals is so high here so I like over 3 in this one.
