The crucial midweek round of matches in the MLS 2022 season conclude on Wednesday night when another four fixtures are played out across America and Canada on what could be another pivotal evening in the campaign.
We are nearing the end of the regular season so each of these matches carry plenty of added significance. Two of them are live on the TV for us in the UK to enjoy and those two and the others will be shown via the bookmaker streams too.
Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
Orlando City SC vs Atlanta United (23.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)
Austin FC v Real Salt Lake (02.15)
Colorado Rapids v San Jose Earthquakes (03.00 – Free Sports)
Vancouver Whitecaps FC v LA Galaxy (03.00)

Preview
There is certainly significance in the two TV matches. The first of those is the latest leg of the rivalry between Orlando City and Atlanta United. The visitors really need a win to give their play-off hopes a boost while the home side could do with the points to keep the chasers at bay. The same situation applies to Colorado Rapids as it does Atlanta in the second TV game. The Rapids have to beat San Jose Earthquakes in order to keep their feint hopes of a spot at the knockout table alive.
There is plenty on the line in one of the other two matches as well as Vancouver Whitecaps host Los Angeles Galaxy. The Galaxy are now three points off the play-offs in the West heading into the midweek action and really need to find a win in Canada to push their claims. Such a win could take them into the top seven at the expense of Real Salt Lake should they lose in the other game of the night away to an Austin FC side who have suddenly come right off the top of their form.
Betting
We are at the stage of the season where the form book can sometimes go out of the window and the situation of the sides involved can dictate the way a match may play out and I think that is the case when Orlando City play host to Atlanta United in a match the away side simply have to win if they are going to make it into the postseason. They still won’t be in control of their own destiny with a win but they would need a bizarre set of results to get in if they lose.
There isn’t a lot of wiggle room for Orlando either though. While defeat wouldn’t be as fatal to them, it would open the door to the chasing pack to get right up close to them as we head towards Decision Day in a few weeks. That means we have a contest where the first goal will completely change the game. If Orlando get it caution will have to be thrown out of the window for Atlanta while a visiting opener will urge the home side forward and potentially leave them vulnerable to the counter. This one looks set up for plenty of goals to me.
