MLS 2023 – Minnesota United vs FC Dallas Tips and Betting Preview

The latest round of matches in the MLS 2023 season concludes on Sunday night when two Western Conference sides meet to conclude matchday 10 of the campaign when Minnesota United play host to FC Dallas.

These two sides both sit inside the top seven in the Western Conference so have made positive starts to the season. They have the chance to better their position as we head towards the end of the first third of the campaign.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full via the Apple TV MLS Season Pass. This match is a free game so you don’t need to subscribe to the service to be able to watch it. The build-up begins at 1.40am UK time. It can also be viewed with the bookmakers too.

Minnesota United

Minnesota United have been a little up and down this season but go into this match off the back of three straight defeats. That kind of came out of the blue because they were unbeaten in their opening five matches of the campaign but suddenly they have run into a bit of a choppy period, one which they will be looking to end here. Should they win here then they would finish the weekend in the top six in the table which is no bad thing.

Goals have been a problem for the Loons throughout the campaign. They have only managed eight of them in the eight matches they have played. Injuries have been one reason for that but the bigger one was the fact that Emmanuel Reynoso hasn’t returned for this campaign and that threw all of their plans out of the window. You would expect Minnesota to figure it out eventually but it is understandable that they have been a bit quiet in that department thus far.

FC Dallas

FC Dallas are becoming a bit of an enigma side. Each time you think they are showing good form and are going to kick on and deliver a sustained run which they certainly look capable of, they throw in a defeat and are back to square one again. That happened once again in New York last week when they went down to New York City FC and they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways here. A Dallas win will move them into the top four in the West which is a decent enough incentive.

The Dallas front three have the potential to be one of the best in the league but they have trouble keeping all three on the pitch at the same time. Alan Velasco is rated as questionable for this match so they might not be together again here either. If there is an issue with Dallas it might come defensively where the only clean sheet they have kept all season was at Inter Miami who aren’t exactly the freest scoring team in the league.

Betting

This will be the second meeting between these two sides this season after they met in Dallas in the opening round of the campaign. Minnesota won that one 1-0 and I suspect this will be a low scoring game as well. Since that first week we’ve seen Minnesota clam up a little and edge on the side of defence rather than offense while they wait for the tools to be put in place to be a little more expansive in the post-Reynoso era.

Dallas are more potent as a team but that doesn’t really ring true on their travels. They have scored in all four away matches this season but they have only scored once in each of those games so they are having a tricky time balancing things away from home. I would imagine Dallas will be happy enough with a draw here so the emphasis will be on Minnesota to push and try and open up Dallas, which certainly isn’t their preferred style or best method. I think when you put it all together under 2.5 goals looks a fair play.
