Big Matches
There are a number of big matches on Saturday evening including repeats of the two playoff matches from last season. Los Angeles FC took on Austin FC in the Western Conference final last term and they meet at the Banc of California Stadium while Philadelphia Union took care of FC Cincinnati in the semi-final on their way to the MLS Cup final last season and those two reoppose in Cincinnati on Saturday. The other appealing game on the card sees the Seattle Sounders, MLS Cup favourites this season for many, hosting St Louis City SC who are currently leading the race for the Supporters’ Shield. That is a clash between the top two in the Western Conference.
Best of the Rest
Atlanta United and New England Revolution have both started the season well in the Eastern Conference. The former head to Yankee Stadium to take on New York City FC while the latter welcome CF Montreal to the Gillette Stadium. Minnesota United are unbeaten this season and they will take that unbeaten start to Soldier Field to face Chicago Fire while the Portland Timbers begin the defence of the Cascadia Cup when they head across the border to take on Vancouver Whitecaps. San Jose Earthquakes have gone under the radar this season and will look to win away to the New York Red Bulls. Two winless sides meet when Sporting Kansas City host Colorado Rapids while LA Galaxy will look for their first win of the season when they go away to the Houston Dynamo.
Betting
This isn’t an easy card to find punts on because a lot of teams are still finding their best form and one or two others who have their best stuff are in the middle of Champions League ties so I’m not going to go in too deep on the matches but there is one bet that I’m willing to take even though this is not a league to bet the away team too often. That rule might not count when DC United are the home team though and I think getting Columbus Crew on a draw no bet line is good enough to take here.
DC United won their opening match of the season but needed an insane injury time turnaround to achieve it. Since then they have lost five on the spin including away to Columbus Crew where they were torn apart in a 2-0 win. They have failed to beat a second string Orlando City SC side at home and lost to New England in their other home game. Columbus are yet to win on the road this season but few teams win in Philadelphia and New York Red Bulls isn’t the easiest place to go. The Crew did win here in 2021 though and drew 2-2 here last season. I think this is a side who are much better under Wilfried Nancy already and will only continue to get better under him and I think they’ll have too much in attack for a defence which has shipped 10 times already this term.
