Big Matches

Immediately when looking down this card the eyes are drawn to the rematch of the Leagues Cup final between Inter Miami SC and Nashville SC. Miami won that on penalties so Nashville will be out for revenge. This match sees arguably the two best players in MLS on show as Lionel Messi goes up against Hany Mukhtar once again. Both Conference leaders are also on show as FC Cincinnati make the trip to take on a dangerous Atlanta United while St Louis City SC play host to an inconsistent FC Dallas side. We also have a Cali-Clasico between the San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy rounding off the night.

Best of the Rest

Philadelphia Union have moved up to second in the Eastern Conference but they are still 11 points behind the leaders Cincinnati. They head to Toronto FC who have now confirmed that Canada coach John Herdman will be their new head coach once he has worked his notice period. New England Revolution and Orlando City sit level with the Union in the point standings and they host the New York Red Bulls and head to Charlotte FC respectively. Over in the West, Los Angeles FC don’t play so Seattle Sounders and Real Salt Lake have the chance to draw level with them on points. They head to Austin FC and Portland Timbers respectively.

Betting

I’ll take a couple of bets over the course of the evening with the first of them coming at Mercedes-Benz Stadium where I expect to see goals between Atlanta United and FC Cincinnati. We usually see plenty of goals at this venue and with Atlanta coming off the back of a 4-0 annihilation of Nashville they should be full of confidence. Cincinnati have been the best team in the league this season though so there is no reason for them to be short of confidence which means that we should see an open and entertaining game. These are two potent sides and while Cincinnati are usually good defensively, they were opened up at will in their last road game in Columbus. Atlanta have the quality to do that here so I like over 3 goals in this one.

I like the same bet in the match between the Houston Dynamo and the Columbus Crew a little later in the evening too. Houston have really come alive in MLS in recent times, notching eight times in their two MLS matches since the Leagues Cup and their home matches all of a sudden are very high scoring. The last six matches in Houston have yielded 24 goals and Columbus Crew should be willing dance partners to add to that tally. The Crew have played 11 matches on their travels this term and there have been 36 goals in those games so Columbus are not averse to a high scoring road game. Houston are gaining in confidence all the time and this has all the hallmarks of a game with plenty of goals to me.
