Big Matches

The runaway Supporters’ Shield leaders FC Cincinnati are back in action on Wednesday evening but they face one of their toughest tests as they head to Yankee Stadium to take on an underachieving New York City FC side. Over in the Western Conference, the leaders Seattle Sounders will look to take advantage of Los Angeles FC being on Champions League duty when they host the San Jose Earthquakes. St Louis City in second aren’t in action either so it could be a big evening for Seattle. Second placed Nashville aren’t in action in the Eastern Conference so New England Revolution will look to close in on second place when they head to Atlanta United in one of the better matches of the night.

Best of the Rest

The Eastern Conference champions Philadelphia Union are in action on Wednesday evening. They go up against Charlotte FC in a battle of two form sides while LA Galaxy will look to begin to turn their campaign around with a trip to Real Salt Lake. Two of the bottom three in the east meet when Inter Miami host New York Red Bulls while over in the west Sporting Kansas City will host an FC Dallas side who could finish the night in second place. Austin FC take on Minnesota United while DC United and CF Montreal will look to move themselves up the division when they face each other.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet over the course of the night as I don’t like getting too involved with these midweek games before we know the XIs and know for sure who is taking it seriously and who are thinking of other assignments and resting some players. I don’t envisage Atlanta United to be resting anyone for a home match and I’m not sure New England Revolution have the depth available to them to rest anyone so it is that match which takes my fancy.

It is the goals I like in this match. Goals tend to flow whenever Atlanta United are at home and I don’t expect that to change here. New England are struggling a little bit defensively with the absence of Harry Kessler being felt. They have conceded eight goals in three matches but it is only a week or so ago that Atlanta shipped three in Chicago so they are not watertight either. There are plenty of good attackers on show here and I think a 2.75 goal line can be covered by those attacking units.
