Preview

We have one Eastern Conference match on Saturday night and three from the Western Conference. The Eastern clash sees two sides not a million miles away from each other in location battling it out at Gillette Stadium when the New England Revolution host the New York Red Bulls. The highest ranked team on show on Saturday are Minnesota United who have the chance to move into second place when they entertain lowly FC Dallas at Allianz Field.

The other two matches contain four sides from the bottom six in the table so they all have a chance to make a bit of a move towards the playoff places. Sporting Kansas City are bottom of the lot and they’ll be looking to turn their form around when they host the Seattle Sounders while CityPark will stage the other match as St Louis City SC will look to get it right when they host a Portland Timbers side who have suddenly found some form after a disappointing spell.

Betting

I’ll go with the one bet on Saturday night and it comes from CityPark where I am expecting goals between two entertaining sides in St Louis City SC and Portland Timbers. These two met twice last season and there were three goals in both games and I fancy at least that many here and potentially even more. Portland matches have been pretty crazy this season. There have been 64 in total in their 17 outings at nearly four per game while St Louis games are averaging 3.2 per match (48 in 15).

Unlike a lot of teams in this mini round of matches, these two have largely avoided international call ups with the only significant ones coming in the form of the goalkeeper and lynchpin defender for the Timbers, which should exacerbate the chances of goals coming along in this match. These two sides are decent going forward but they have shown recently that they can be exposed defensively. St Louis have conceded 10 in their last four matches while only two teams have conceded more than Portland in the entire MLS. I think over 3.25 goals covers here.
