What looks like an outstanding week 11 in the NFL season begins in Seattle on Thursday night when the latest match between the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers takes place. Both sides are in divisions with runaway leaders so in the race for a wildcard spot this is a big clash.
Both these teams have four wins for the season with the Packers having four losses and a tie while the Seahawks have five defeats. Whoever loses this match is likely to have to win out to secure a postseason spot so this is huge.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle go into this match having lost their last two matches although to be fair they have been to both Los Angeles sides and there is no shame in losing to them right now. They can be allowed those losses but perhaps not this one because they are at home on a short week and it is to a genuine wildcard rival so this is a match the Seahawks must win.
If they are going to do that one of two things needs to happen. They either need to maximise all their offensive opportunities or their defence is going to need to improve dramatically against the best quarterback in the Conference. They do have the advantage of being at home on a Thursday night which can’t be understated.
Green Bay Packers
This hasn’t been the best season for the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers has spent much of it not fully fit and it has shown and then more recently a couple of strange trades have left him without as many offensive options given the injuries they also have and you get the feeling that the plans for next year have kind of overtaken the work for the remainder of this year.
Despite that the Packers go into the match off the back of an emphatic win over the Miami Dolphins last week and if they can overcome their injuries they could yet pick up the win which will put them right back into the mix with regards to a postseason spot. If Green Bay are going to win this one their defence will need to show up and control Russell Wilson.

Betting
Given that these two sides are underperforming this isn’t necessarily an easy match to bet on. I’m tempted to take the Seattle Seahawks as I regularly stress how hard it is for the road side to get the job done in these Thursday night matches especially with the distances involved between these two sides but there is something about it that I’m not sure about.
With that in mind I’ll side with a player bet which comes in the form of the rushing yards of Green Bay running back Aaron Jones. In the last three matches he has rushed for 86 yards, 75 yards and 145 yards averaging more than five yards per carry. I would expect him to see the ball plenty of times in this match with Seattle not offering the best of run defences. His line is 75.5 yards which looks like it is perfectly achievable to me.
