The second week of the NFL playoffs begin with a tasty looking clash between one of the teams of the season in the Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts, who head to Arrowhead Stadium in the middle of an insanely good run of form.
The Chiefs know that while their season is live they are going to be at home until the Super Bowl but Indianapolis will know that Kansas City have a quarterback playing his first postseason match and will look to take advantage of that.
Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs were excellent in the regular season, but as they know all too well what happens in the first part of the campaign means little in the postseason. The strongest thrive in the playoffs and in recent times when they have been involved at this stage they have been found wanting. It will be interesting to see if Patrick Mahomes can handle the unique pressure of knockout ball.
Mahomes has controlled this offense brilliantly and while we need to acknowledge the fact that they slowed down a little in the latter part of the regular season, we should still accept that they have been the team to beat. They might need the offense to come to the party here though because we’ve seen them exposed defensively throughout the campaign thus far.
Indianapolis Colts
I give full credit to the Indianapolis Colts for making it through to this stage. I wonder how much further they can go but they have won two knockout matches and held their nerve comfortably so you get the feeling they are not going to surrender an opportunity should one appear here. They are going to need to be beaten but confidence is massive in sport and they should be full of it.
You would think that Indianapolis will be able to move the ball nicely in this match so their fortunes could depend on whether they can control the Chiefs’ offense but even if this does turn into a shootout they have a gunslinger of their own so they wouldn’t necessarily be without a chance. The other thing they need to do is control their emotions against a raucous home crowd.

Betting
I’m expecting a high scoring shootout type match here with offenses dominating defences that are there to be gotten after. Mahomes and Luck are excellent passers and they have form horses to pass the ball too while both sides don’t really have the sort of running game that is going to chew up the clock either.
Admittedly playoff matches tend to be lower scoring as a rule but rules are there to be broken and I think the quick drives, passing games these two employ will combine to see the scoring go beyond the 56.5pt mark. Both sides could easily reach 30pts in this one and that will obviously be more than enough to cover this so I’ll take the over.
