Another week of NFL action concludes as ever with the Monday Night Football which this week comes from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on what could be a special night for the New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
He needs just 201 passing yards in the contest to have the most in that category of anyone in the history of the league. He will be expected to get them when the Saints host the Washington Redskins on what may be an emotional evening.
New Orleans Saints
After surprisingly dropping their opening match to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New Orleans Saints have won their last three to power to the top of the NFC South and they will maintain that advantage with a win here. Not only did they win those matches but they put up 97 points in them so offensively they are clicking into gear nicely.
They will be boosted on that side of the ball too with Mark Ingram back from his four match suspension now. He and Alvin Kamara can wreak havoc together. If there is a concern it comes in the defensive areas of things where they have already leaked 121 points at an average of more than 30 points per game. That needs to improve if they are to make it all the way to the Super Bowl.
Washington Redskins
Given that they come here off their bye week the Washington Redskins should be rested for this one but while you would think the bye is an advantage, their record after their bye week suggests it might not be. Amazingly you have to go back to 2002 for the last time Washington covered the spread away from home when they have just enjoyed the week off.
It is hard to know what to expect from the Redskins in this match because they have already been inconsistent even in allowing for their 2-1 winning record. They were ordinary in beating the Arzona Cardinals who look a poor side anyway, then they lost to an average team in the Indianapolis Colts before seeing off the Green Bay Packers. If the side that played Green Bay shows up here they have every chance but a lack of consistency is a worry.

Betting
The night is all about Drew Brees but that might just fire the Washington Redskins to get involved in another shootout with the New Orleans Saints. I’m tempted to back the total points over here but the inconsistencies of the Redskins is putting me off taking anything that involved them.
With that in mind I’ll go with the New Orleans Saints points and for them to cover 29pts. They have comfortably covered it in three of their four matches and with Brees set to shine on the Monday Night Football once again and with even more balance to their offense with Ingram back I expect to see New Orleans’ points sail into the thirties.
