The final match of another busy and exciting Sunday in the National Football League sees the Kansas City Chiefs going up against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in the Sunday Night Football, a match which is of significance for the visitors rather than the hosts.
The Bears are just playing out their season now with no prospects of making it into the postseason while the Chiefs know they will be around in January, but are still in the hunt to have the first week of it off.
Chicago Bears
Given where they were at the end of last season, you would have to say this campaign has been little short of a disappointment for the Chicago Bears. The very least they would have expected would have been to have a winning record, and while even an 8-6 ledger at this stage of proceedings wouldn’t have had them placed any better, it would at least show they backed up a good season in the right way.
I guess the one positive you could say about the Bears is that despite last week’s loss they are finishing the season better. Prior to that loss they had won three on the bounce and their offense had looked to come out of the struggles it has had for much of the campaign. That is positive because you would think given how strong their defence is, with a tool or two more from the draft offensively, the Bears will be lively again next term.

Kansas City Chiefs
This one is all about the Kansas City Chiefs however. They have the AFC West sewn up and a win here would see them go into the final week of the season still in the hunt of securing a first round bye in the playoffs. That feint hope disappears with a defeat though so this is a big game. They certainly don’t want to be losing here and again next week and end up hosting the Buffalo Bills in the first week of the postseason.
As with last term, the Kansas City Chiefs offense has been great to watch. It might actually deserve more credit this year because of all the injuries they have had to endure in that area, not least to Patrick Mahomes, so it is extremely positive that they have gone so well. If they are going to win out and go deep in the playoffs then they are going to have to muscle up and tighten up on defence, and if they do that who knows how deep they go.
Betting
I always think motivation is worth a couple of extra points to a side and I can actually see something of a flat performance from the Chicago Bears here now that their season is officially done. Kansas City Chiefs are playing for a shot at the marbles here and I expect that intensity to see them play for the full 60 minutes, giving their all throughout and looking to make the sort of statement that might make the Patriots think about things.
The Chiefs are being asked to cover less than a touchdown here and while I’m always loathe to take an away side to cover too much, the fact one is playing for plenty and the motivation of the other is questionable, I’m happy enough to be on the Chiefs here. Their offense is right up there in terms of power whereas Chicago’s is flaky at the best of times. Chiefs can cover 6.5pts and keep their hopes of the number two seed alive.
