We head to the NFC West for the Sunday Night Football this week as the new leaders of the division, Seattle Seahawks, make the trip down to California to take on the Los Angeles Rams in what has the makings of being a real banger of a match.
The Seahawks gained control of the division with their win over Minnesota last week and they will secure a playoff spot if they come out on top in this one. The Rams are battling hard for a wildcard spot and need to be winning themselves, so this one is beautifully poised.
Los Angeles Rams
We have seen both sides of the Los Angeles Rams in the last couple of weeks with them having been absolutely taken to the cleaners by the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago but to be fair to them they bounced back like a good side should do and steamrolled the Arizona Cardinals last week. They will be wanting more consistency to their game but they are 7-5 for the campaign and three wins from their last four should see them into the playoffs.
When you look at the Rams on paper you see a pretty elite defence but an offense which can be prone to misfiring. If they are going to make it through and extend their season then that side of the ball is going to have to come up with the goods most of the time. There is only so much their defence can do, especially against talented offenses like the one they encounter here so they could do with a good day offensively.
Seattle Seahawks
With the way the results went last week, the Seattle Seahawks became the hunted rather than the hunters in one foul swoop and they know that whatever happens from here on in, if they win out they will win the NFC West and give themselves a bye in the first week of the playoffs. Hitting top form at this time of year is nothing new for the Seahawks and they look to be doing it once again when it really counts.
The Seahawks make the trip to Los Angeles off the back of a streak of five successive wins with their offense firing nicely and their defence coming up with plays when they need it to. They have one of the best quarterbacks in the league in decent form but they can mix it on the ground as well and in the main their defence is restricting sides. It all presents a pretty solid outlook if you are a Seattle fan right now.
Betting
I think we’ll get a high scoring match here. There is a lot of talent in these two offenses and while the Los Angeles Rams one isn’t as consistency as they would like, I do think at home in a match they have to win against a defence that can get exposed, we will see the likes of Todd Gurley and Jared Goff delivering the goods when it is most needed.
As good as the Rams’ defence is, there have not been many sides who have been able to contain this Seattle Seahawks offense this season. The first meeting between these two this term contained 59pts and included a missed game winning field goal late on which would have seen it break through the 60 point barrier. The line for this rematch is just 47.5 which I think looks a little low given the nature of the game and what is on it.
