We are already into the third week of the NFL season and it gets underway with the Thursday Night Football as always which this week sees two Floridian teams going at it when the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Miami Dolphins.
Very little were expected from these two AFC sides this season but they have actually delivered way beyond such little expectation, in terms of performance at least if not necessarily in results. They both have the chance to fire the season up here.
Jacksonville Jaguars
When the season started the Jacksonville Jaguars were expected to offer up very little, with some quarters suggesting they were already playing to get the number one draft pick next season. Whether they wanted to tank the season or not, that is never the attitude of players going into a campaign and that has shown in the first two matches with the Jaguars surprising the Indianapolis Colts in their opening game and running the Tennessee Titans close in the second.
The big reason for their impressive start to the season has been their offense, and any success that does come their way is going to be down to them because they have traded away a lot of defensive talent over the last 12 months or so and not really adequately replaced them. That leaves them vulnerable against the very best sides but they will be confident that Gardner Minshew has the play making skills to get this one done.

Miami Dolphins
There wasn’t a whole lot more expected of the Miami Dolphins this season either and while they have been competitive in their two matches they haven’t delivered above expectations in terms of their results. They weren’t disgraced by New England Patriots in the opening week of the season but you sensed that there was a lot more in the Patriots if they wanted it but the way Buffalo Bills took their defence apart would have been concerning.
The Buffalo Bills of all teams piled up yards on them on Sunday and that doesn’t bode well but the positive was that they were able to put up 28pts against a side who many expect to win the AFC East based on the strength of their defence so Ryan Fitzpatrick deserves a lot of credit for that. They now have to make the short trip off the back of a short week to prepare for this game so you would imagine that if the Fins are to win this match their offense will need to run hot.

I like the over here. I’ve banged on and on about how the defences are tiring quicker this season and why that is the case and I don’t expect anything to have changed four days after these two teams last played. It has to be said that the two defences involved in this match aren’t the best anyway so when you factor in tiredness on the short week and injuries starting to take their toll you’ve got to think the offenses will be looking at this one as one they can win.
Both Gardner Minshew and Ryan Fitzpatrick have the ability to get the ball down field and speed drives up and feast on those weakened defences. Miami matches tend to clear the over quite regularly these days and with the Jaguars offense not seeming to be missing Leonard Fournette quite as much as was expected there is a good chance of points here. The line for the match is 48.5 and I like the over there.
