The second half of the double header in the NFL on Thanksgiving Day comes from the traditional home of the AT&T Stadium as the Dallas Cowboys take on the Washington Football Team in what is a huge clash in the NFC East.
Going into this match every team in the division has three wins to their name and a tie elevates Philadelphia Eagles above the others but whoever wins this encounter will end the night on top of the division even though they would only have a 4-7 record for the season.
Dallas Cowboys
This season wasn’t really going anywhere to begin with for the Dallas Cowboys but it disappeared in optimism when Dak Prescott went down for the remainder of the campaign. To add to their woes his backup Andy Dalton then went lame and only returned to action last week. That led to an encouraging win over the Minnesota Vikings and that will have added a little more expectation on their shoulders going into this one.
To be fair to the Cowboys, their defence has shown its worth in recent weeks. Although they have been getting well beaten prior to Sunday, they haven’t shipped an avalanche of points so if the return of Dalton is enough to get their offense on the field for longer and balance out the time of possession then the Cowboys can certainly be competitive in their division, if not against one or two other sides. The pressure comes from knowing the only route to the postseason is by winning the division.

Washington Football Team
It hasn’t exactly been a fantastic season for the Washington Football Team. They have had to go back to Alex Smith under center after injuries put out starters and while they haven’t been winning matches, they haven’t been losing them by much. In the last five weeks Washington have won a couple of matches and lost three others but those defeats have come by a total of seven points so it isn’t like they are getting smashed to pieces or anything.
They mirror Dallas in many ways. Their defence has generally held up well to the demands of the season and the lack of preparation ahead it but their offense has been very hit and miss, much more miss than hit, but if they can find some consistency in that area of proceedings there is no reason why things can’t have an upward turn. As with the Cowboys, Washington know that they have to win the division to extend their season.
Betting
This looks a pretty even match up with both sides flattering to deceive offensively and better but not completely convincing defensively. That should probably point us in the direction of the under but this is Thanksgiving and I’m never an under merchant on Turkey Day. That said I can’t bring myself to pull the trigger on the over either given how both offenses are struggling at present which makes me look more for the point spread.
I say that it is an even match but I mean that in the way both teams are performing. Where it isn’t even is in terms of quality. Dallas Cowboys have a lot of quality in their offensive personnel and their defence has enough playmakers to be more than competitive and I think that can be the difference here. Andy Dalton has the potential to get the best out of Ceedee Lamb and Amari Cooper and if Ezekiel Elliott or Tony Pollard can get the Cowboys’ ground game working they have it in them to cover a 2.5pt spread.
