A dramatic week 5 in the NFL season ends with the Monday Night Football as ever, which this week comes from the M&T Bank Stadium as the Baltimore Ravens take on the Indianapolis Colts in what is already a big match for both sides.
The Ravens have seen the Browns and the Bengals lose in the AFC North this week already so they have the chance to move clear in the division with a win here. The Colts got their season up and running last week and need to keep winning if they are going to keep pace with the Tennessee Titans in the AFC South.
Baltimore Ravens
After dropping a match in the opening Monday Night Football of the season in Las Vegas, the Baltimore Ravens have won their last three matches, one of which an eye catching victory over the Kansas City Chiefs as well as a fortunate success over the Detroit Lions. They have fought a series of injuries and a slight change in transition in the way they want to go about things offensively but there are signs of them warming to the task.
The Ravens’ offense has seemingly taken no time to hit the ground running this term but their defence were absent without leave for a couple of matches. Given all the injuries Baltimore had on that side of the ball that was probably to be expected but over the last couple of weeks they have come together on the road and only conceded 24 points in those two games. They go up against a very flaky offensive line here so the eyes of this Ravens’ defence should light up.

Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts stumbled out of the starting gate this season, losing their opening three matches. They did get back on track with a win over the Miami Dolphins last week but I’m not massively sure we can take that as a huge form guide. The positive thing other than the victory was the fact that Carson Wentz had his best game in a Colts jersey, and he didn’t look shackled by the injury he went into the season with and aggravated a couple of weeks ago.
That might be where the positives end for the Colts though because their offensive line is offering Wentz no protection at all and their defence has been getting gassed easily. They are struggling to stop the run which is not a good sign when you head to Baltimore, and have given up the odd deep play as well. Unless they can find a way to slow Lamar Jackson down and force him to keep passes shallow you sense this could be a long night for Indianapolis.
Betting
I like the Baltimore Ravens here. I think the match will be determined up front and the Ravens’ defensive line is playing a whole lot better than the Indianapolis Colts offensive one. That means Carson Wentz is going to be under constant pressure and with no real run game of any note to turn to you get the impression that this is going to be a fairly long evening for the visiting side unless they can someone get the ball down the field and stop Baltimore sending the world after Wentz.
To be honest, even if Indianapolis do find a way of exposing the home defence they are still up against it from the Ravens offense. Teams have found running on the Colts a lot easier than they should be doing, while Jackson is having huge success with the long ball this season and has a couple of dynamite options to pass to. Whether they get it done by restricting the Colts or just simply outscoring them, I fancy the Ravens to cover 6.5pts at 8/11.
