NFL 2021 – New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tips and Betting Preview

The final match of another tasty Sunday in the NFL 2021 season comes from the Raymond James Stadium as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the New Orleans Saints in a huge NFC South match in the Sunday Night Football.

This is huge for the defending champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a win here will secure them the NFC South title and will keep them firmly in the hunt in the race for the number one seeding in the Conference. The Saints can’t afford to lose as the chase for the wildcard is crazy tight so there is everything on this one.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a two week wobble either side of their bye week halfway through the season but in the main their title defence has been an impeccable one. They go into this match off the back of a four-match winning burst and if they extend that to five wins in succession they will win the NFC South title once again. That will be the least of their aims though as with a 10-3 record they will still be chasing down the number one seeding.

Last year their defence really came to the party at this time of the season and while that hasn’t happened yet this time around, they don’t need it to because their offense looks to be firing on all cylinders, even though they have had players out at certain times. Even last week when they allowed the Buffalo Bills to come back from nowhere to force overtime, they came up with the big play to win the match. You sense there is a belief that they can’t be beaten at the minute.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints looked like they were at the very least flying towards the wildcard in the NFC, if not the division title, when they were 5-2 for their season. They then went on a five-match losing run which they managed to snap last week but at 6-7 they probably have to win out if they are going to extend their season. That means they have to win this match. At the very least they can only afford one more defeat.

Injuries have been a big problem for the Saints. The injury to Jameis Winston was never going to be ideal but injury and Covid issues to Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram have really hurt them. If that hasn’t been enough they will be without their head coach Sean Payton for this match as he has tested positive for Covid. With an inexperienced quarterback with few passing options they could have done without that.

Betting

The onus here is on the New Orleans Saints defence to find a way to keep their side in the game here. The Saints’ offense is going to be based largely around their run game with Taysom Hill at quarterback and Alvin Kamara around but in the main teams don’t run on this Tampa Bay Buccaneers outfit, and even if they do there is only so much running a team can do should they fall a long way behind so New Orleans need their defence to be counted here.

Tampa Bay are giving up 10.5 points in this one but I’m not convinced that is going to be enough. Until they switched off last week they were all over the Buffalo Bills and the fact they nearly slipped up in that game will ensure they don’t allow that to happen again. Josh Allen was good enough to take advantage of those gifts when behind. I don’t expect Hill to be. Ultimately I think New Orleans could find scoring tough here and I think they’ll struggle to stop Tampa Bay scoring and that combination can lead to a big home win here.
