The latest week of action in the NFL 2021 season finishes as ever with the Monday Night Football which this time around pits two teams who are struggling in the NFC together despite being in different divisions as the Washington Football Team host the Seattle Seahawks.
Both teams go into the Monday Night showdown with losing records for their season but for the Washington side not all hope is lost with the Cowboys beginning to stutter in their division. Seattle might already be looking towards next year.
Washington Football Team
When you consider the Washington Football Team were 2-6 a couple of weeks ago and seemingly going nowhere and now they are 4-6 and could move to within two wins of the NFC East leaders Dallas Cowboys with both matches against their rivals to come this term. That is how quickly everything can change in the NFL and highlights the importance of extending this recent two-match winning burst the WFT have gone on.
To be fair to Washington the only team of the six they have lost to who don’t have a winning record are the New Orleans Saints and that isn’t exactly a terrible result. There has been a clear improvement on both sides of the ball for the Washington outfit and that has resulted in good wins over Tampa Bay and Carolina in recent weeks and another solid game here could see their season suddenly become very competitive.

Seattle Seahawks
This has been a woeful season for the Seattle Seahawks. They go into this match with a 3-7 record which has come about by losing four of their last five matches. We have become accustomed to seeing them starts campaigns slowly but then come good at the business end of the year but there won’t be no doing that this time around. Their season, barring something which even by NFL standards would be unlikely, is already done from a competitive point of view with them already six games behind the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West.
The Seattle defence just hasn’t shown up at all so far this term and with Russell Wilson missing a piece of the campaign with a finger injury, an issue which he still doesn’t look over, the offense which so often gets this team out of trouble just hasn’t been able to catch fire. There are no rumours of rifts in the dressing room and it would be a huge surprise if this season doesn’t just completely fizzle out. You can never write the Seahawks off with Wilson at quarterback but they don’t look remotely good enough based on recent weeks.
Betting
I guess when you are betting on this match the question to ask is which one you would trust more with your money given that bookmakers can’t split them in the main. I’ll go with the team seemingly on the up in the Washington Football Team who are starting to play decent ball on both sides of the ball. Taylor Heinicke is looking a solid option at quarterback and he is forming a decent combination with Terry McLaurin and those two could gash a pathetic Seahawks pass defence.
I keep expecting things to click for the Seattle Seahawks but in their last five defeats they have totalled just 60 points in total and although some of those losses have been to elite teams the offense just isn’t delivering the goods. Washington are making enough plays on defence now and have kept fully functional and strong offenses from Tampa Bay and Green Bay relatively quiet in recent times so they should be able to do something of a restraining job on this Seahawks offense. I’m not sure this will be much of a game but Washington won’t care if they are on the winning side come the end of it.
