NFL 2022 – Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers Tips and Betting Preview

The closer to Week 4 of the NFL 2022 season comes in the Monday Night Football which this time around is all about the NFC West as the San Francisco 49ers host the Los Angeles Rams in a repeat of the NFC Championship game from last term.

The Rams won that match on their way to winning the title and will be looking for a repeat of that to seize control of the division. The 49ers won’t want to lose to their rivals or go 1-3 for their season so this one is beautifully set up.

San Francisco 49ers

This has been a much more eventful season for the San Francisco 49ers than they would have wanted when they set out on it. The reason for that is less than six quarters into it all their plans went up in smoke when Trey Lance went down for the remainder of the campaign. That means they had to go back to the quarterback services of Jimmy Garoppolo, the man who guided them to the NFC Championship game last season.

There is a feeling that the Jimmy G ceiling is a lot lower than Lance hence the change between the seasons and they are different weapons so the offense is going to need to completely change. The one thing which will allow that transition to be a little easier than it might otherwise have been is the fact the San Francisco defence is in such good nick. Although they have lost two of their opening three matches they have only conceded 37 points in total.

Los Angeles Rams

The title defence for the Los Angeles Rams didn’t begin how they would have wanted it to but they have picked up speed in the last couple of matches. They were well beaten by the Buffalo Bills in the opening game but I don’t think we’ll be looking back on that as a bad result when the season comes to an end. Since then they have taken care of the Atlanta Falcons and the Arizona Cardinals and I think it is fair to say there is still a lot more to come from them.

The Rams’ defence took a couple of weeks to get up to speed but it looked in decent order last week and certainly when you look at it on paper there aren’t many in the league you would rather have. The offense was a little less productive last week with Matt Stafford surprisingly spreading the ball around a bit. It would be a surprise if Cooper Kupp isn’t brought into the match a lot more here as the Rams go about securing a third straight win.

Betting

I think we are in for a low scoring Monday Night Football but certainly a competitive one. These two offenses have underperformed this season. It is understandable why the San Francisco 49ers’ one has done but something isn’t quite firing with the Los Angeles Rams so far this term so that will be music to the ears of the defenders in this one. Both secondaries are performing pretty well at the minute which could automatically see the run games being utilised much more here.

The other thing which could see running the ball be the method of attack in this match is the two pass rushes on show here. We know all about the likes of Aaron Donald and Nick Bosa but the 49ers are missing left tackle Trent Williams for this match and have an inexperienced replacement so the blind side of Jimmy G could be targeted all night. I expect a clash where the defences are on top here and as such I think a 43 point line might be out of reach. Five of the last seven have seen 43 points or less between these two. I think that will move to six from eight here.
