NFL 2022 Playoffs – Dallas Cowboys @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tips and Betting Preview

The Super Wildcard weekend concludes in the NFL 2022 Playoffs with the Monday Night Football which this week comes from the home of the NFC South champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they host the Dallas Cowboys.

These two famous names will battle it out with the winner knowing that they will be heading to San Francisco for the divisional round game next week and would be just two wins away from the big dance. The stakes are pretty high here.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had the worst record of the 14 teams who made it into the postseason but they won’t care about that because by winning the NFC South, a division that didn’t exactly take a lot of winning, they are at home for the opening round of the playoffs. It is only two years ago that Tom Brady and the Bucs went all the way and who would bet against them winning three knockout matches to be lining up in Arizona next month?

If that is going to happen then their offense needs to come to the party. We are used to Tom Brady and this passing game destroying teams but only twice in the 17 matches they played this season did they reach the 30 point mark. In the main their defence has played solid enough. Only the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers and the Cincinnati Bengals have put 30 points up on this team but the misfiring offense has consistently held them back.

Dallas Cowboys

The difference in the season of the Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys could barely be much greater. Tampa Bay went into the penultimate match of the season knowing had they lost they might not have been in the playoffs at all while Dallas entered the final week of the campaign still in with a chance of being the number one seed in the NFC. Such is the quirky and outdated nature of the postseason, Dallas with much the better record of the two teams have to go on the road.

Here comes the big test for Dallas though. Their postseason record is nothing to write home about and there is a school of thought that their defence is just a little slower to react on turf than the artificial surface their home games are played on. That could be significant here, especially if the Cowboys offense fails to impose itself on this decent Tampa Bay defence. Avoiding big plays against them could be the key to success here.

Betting

It never sits comfortably backing Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs but it certainly wouldn’t with the run of form that Dak Prescott is currently in. He has gone seven straight games with an interception and in a match I expect to be tight and decided by the finer margins and who holds themselves together the best I just don’t want to be going anywhere near the Dallas trigger man right now. That isn’t to say Dallas can’t win it with their defence but that defence doesn’t look as problematic on the road.

That makes me think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the value as outsiders here. They beat the Dallas Cowboys 19-3 in the opening week of the season and although he got injured in that match, it is hard to argue that Prescott has got any better. If the Bucs’ defence can keep a hold on the Cowboys running game then I would expect this Tampa Bay offense to make enough plays to get the job done in what is likely to be a low scoring match which might only further help them to come out on top if they are not chasing 30+ points.
