NFL 2022 – Week 14 Sunday Early Games Tips and Betting Preview

As ever when we approach Christmas the NFL regular season ramps up a notch and that is no different in the NFL 2022 campaign. The majority of the matches in Week 14 of the season take place in the early games on Sunday.

This is the final week of the year where we have teams on a bye so we have a reduced schedule in the early two slots on Sunday but despite that there are still two matches for us to enjoy on TV in the UK and the usual RedZone coverage and streams with the bookmakers.

1pm Kick Offs (6pm UK time)

There is a big clash in the NFC East which makes up the TV offering in the first of the two kick off slots on Sunday as the leading team in the league, Philadelphia Eagles, make the trip to the Big Apple to take on a New York Giants side who need to get back to winning ways after three games without a win. Six other matches take place at this time with five of them being divisional battles. The pick of those comes in the AFC East where the Buffalo Bills look to pile the pressure on the rest when they host a New York Jets side who will be eager to keep winning themselves.

We have the latest leg of the age-old rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens also going on at this time with the former looking to spoil the party of the latter. That comes in the AFC North and the other two teams in that division collide too when the Cincinnati Bengals look to go to the top of the division when they take on the Cleveland Browns. Over in the AFC South, the Tennessee Titans can move to within a win or so of the division title when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars while the Minnesota Vikings will be looking to secure the NFC North title when they head to the Detroit Lions. The other match in the early slot sees the Dallas Cowboys hosting the Houston Texans.

4.05/4.25pm Kick Offs (9.05/9.25pm UK time)

Just three matches come along in the second part of the earlier set of games and we have two of the more recognisable franchises on show in the TV match in the UK when the San Francisco 49ers, now down to their third-choice quarterback in Brock Purdy, host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who took control of the NFC South division when they came back to beat the New Orleans Saints last week and will hope to confirm their dominance of it when they head to California here.

Two other matches will both be shown with most of the bookmakers and the Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to pile the pressure on the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West when they go on the road to take on division rivals Denver Broncos, a side who are playing out time on a terrible season. The other match sees the Seattle Seahawks looking to try to keep up with the pace in the NFC West when they host an average looking Carolina Panthers.

Betting

I’ll go with the one match over the course of the earlier slots of games and it comes in the second of the TV matches for us in the UK. That sees the San Francisco 49ers going up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the NFC West leaders host the team setting the pace in the NFC South, meaning that this could potentially be a dress rehearsal for a playoff match when we get to that stage of the season. This is a match where the defences are likely to be on top and while that is reflected in the point markets, there is one where it might not have been.

That comes in the shape of the field goal markets. The total for field goals in this match is 3.5, exactly the same as the one I took when the Buccaneers took on the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. The over landed in that game and when you consider how well the defences of these two sides are performing, and combine that with the struggles the offenses are undergoing at present, there is the potential for a lot of drives to be cut short, leading to field goal opportunities. In a low scoring match I don’t expect either coach to pass up the chance for three points and in Robbie Gould and Ryan Succop we have two of the more reliable kickers in the league kicking for us. That all makes me think this is a match where over 3.5 field goals can land.
