NFL 2023 – Dallas Cowboys @ Los Angeles Chargers Tips and Betting Preview

Week six of the NFL 2023 season concludes with the Monday Night Football which this week takes us to Hollywood for the clash between two high profile sides as the Los Angeles Chargers host the Dallas Cowboys.

These two bring powerful offenses to the party but both are lagging behind the leaders in their respective divisions and will know this is a match they can’t afford to lose if they are to chase down the pacesetters.

Los Angeles Chargers

It was a bad start to the season for the Los Angeles Chargers as they fell to a 0-2 beginning although the two defeats were by two points to the Miami Dolphins, which certainly doesn’t look a bad result right now, and an overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans. Since then things have turned for the Bolts with them having won their last two matches and they head into this one not just 2-2 for their season but also off the back of their bye week.

That will have allowed them to take stock of where they are at but most importantly it has given some injured players an extra week to return to action. Justin Herbert has been able to give his thumb issue a rest while Austin Ekeler is expected to feature for the first time since the opening week. The Chargers have put up at least 24 points in all of their matches so if their defence comes to the party here, led by the impressive Khalil Mack, the Bolts will fancy their chances.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are in a better position than the Chargers given that they are 3-2 for their season but they come into this match off the back of their worst performance of the season so far and one of the worst since Dak Prescott came into their ranks. That gives them plenty of prove in this primetime encounter. To be fair that loss was to the San Francisco 49ers so the defeat in essence wasn’t an issue but it was the fact Prescott reverted to type that would be the concern.

The other concern is that piece by piece this Dallas defence is beginning to get ripped apart. We knew they were going to be without Trevon Diggs for a while and now Leighton Van Der Esch is missing with a neck injury so there is going to be a lot of pressure on Micah Parsons to disrupt things to give the defence a chance. That would then turn the attention back to Prescott who needs to find a way of playing these big games against top teams without turning the ball over.

Betting

I feared for the Dallas Cowboys last week and my fears came true and while I don’t hate them as much here, they just have a couple of injuries too many on defence for my liking and the one thing I definitely would take from this match is Justin Herbert is a whole lot more reliable than Dak Prescott, particularly in the high profile matches and especially when you consider that the Los Angeles Chargers are at home and are fresh.

The freshness thing could be a factor but the big thing in that freshness is Austin Ekeler will be back. Dallas couldn’t handle Christian McCaffrey last week and Ekeler is of a similar ilk and will allow Herbert to keep Micah Parsons at bay a little more. I do worry about this Dallas deep field on the defensive side of the ball and even without Mike Williams, Herbert has the weapons to take advantage of that. It is the Chargers for me.
