The NFL 2023 week concludes with a rerun of the Super Bowl from last season when the Kansas City Chiefs welcome the team they beat to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the Philadelphia Eagles to Arrowhead Stadium for a cracking looking Monday Night Football.
Not only were these two teams the two best in the league last season, they are among the best in it this term as well and so we have everything we need for a huge game, one which almost can’t fail to disappoint.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are 7-2 for their title defence season which I would imagine most will be pleased with. They are 7-1 for their last eight because they dropped their opening game against the Detroit Lions with their only other loss coming a couple of weeks ago against the Denver Broncos. That looks a weak defeat at the time but it doesn’t look quite as bad now. I do think the Chiefs have been a little underwhelming this season though, although that is probably just based on the high expectation they have accrued.
We expect a lot, especially from their offense, but only twice all season have they topped the 30 point mark so they are not delivering to the levels they have in previous seasons. The flip side of that is that they are getting the job done on defence because even though they haven’t put up 30 points in seven of their nine games, they have won five of those matches so where they were weaker in the past they are much better these days.

Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles are a game better off than the Chiefs at this stage of the season. They are 8-1 for the year but will know they need to keep winning because they have the Dallas Cowboys chasing them down in the race for the NFC East title. The Eagles have put a second successive excellent regular season together and that is to their credit because that Super Bowl defeat at the end of last term would have been a real tough one to swallow.
Unlike their Chiefs, Philadelphia have put up 30 points or more on a number of occasions this season and their offense is extremely well balanced and hard to stop as a result of that. They can beat you with the run and they can beat you through the air and they will need their offense to be good here because defensively they probably aren’t quite as strong as last season and even though the Chiefs have flattered to deceive on offense, it won’t take much for it to fir again.
Betting
This has all the potential of being the game of the season so far and if it is as good as the Super Bowl was then we should be in for an absolute treat. I would probably have favoured the Philadelphia Eagles here had the Kansas City Chiefs not been coming in off their bye week but I’m certainly not taking the Chiefs on in that regard so I’m happy to watch this match without a skin in the game, but I will take a player prop to add to the interest.
That comes in the form of the receiving yards for Travis Kelce where the line is 75.5 yards. He only caught six passes in the Super Bowl last season but he still managed 81 yards. With the Eagles proving pretty much impossible to run on this season you would imagine that most of the Kansas City offense is going to come through the air and that brings Kelce right into play. There is this weird coincidence that whenever Taylor Swift is around Kelce goes off and while she might not be in attendance here, in a primetime clash she will surely be watching so I expect Mahomes to target his main receiver fairly often. Philadelphia are the worst in the league against tight ends with them averaging more than 10 yards per catch and I expect Kelce to feast on that soft part of the Eagles’ D to go beyond 75.5 yards here.
