NFL 2023 – Philadelphia Eagles @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tips and Betting Preview

We have another double header of NFL 2023 action in the Monday Night Football this week with the first of the two matches to kick off seeing two undefeated sides battling it out when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Philadelphia Eagles.

These two teams have both been to a Super Bowl in recent seasons and they have started in positive fashion in their bid to get back there. Much more was expected of the Eagles heading into the campaign so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top here.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have put the Tom Brady era behind them and have started the Baker Mayfield one creditably. You could argue what they have beaten in the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears but the big thing is that they have beaten them and a team who are winning is one which will only gain in confidence. Even without Brady this remains a very talented Buccaneers roster on both sides of the ball.

The pleasing thing about the Bucs has been the balance to their offense. They have run the ball well and Mayfield has linked up with a number of receivers and the latter will be important here against an Eagles defence which has been shredded by injury. Tampa’s defence has gone well too. There is an obvious case to answer that the Bears were cannon fodder for this defence last week but that isn’t the case with Minnesota who they kept to 17 points.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have bounced back from their Super Bowl defeat in positive fashion. They have picked up successive wins and go into this match off the back of the extended break having featured in the Thursday Night Football last week. There were a few questions over their first performance against the New England Patriots but they answered those pretty emphatically last week and will be looking for another primetime win here.

Injuries are beginning to mount up for Philadelphia, particularly on defence so their offense might need to carry the load here. In the main they got the job done on the ground last week but Jalen Hurts and the passing game still did enough to remind teams that this is not just a rushing offense. That bodes well if this turns into something of a shootout, which it very well could do with the Philly defence as light as it is.

Betting

Both teams have questions over defensive players in terms of injuries here. Philadelphia are definitely missing key defensive players while for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers they are questionable but I’m less worried about their injuries because this Eagles offense could go mad on them whether they are at full strength or not given how well balanced Philadelphia are on that side of the ball. That makes me think we might get more points than expected here.

Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay passing offense has the potential to run riot against a Philadelphia backfield which coughed up 360 yards and four passing touchdowns to Kirk Cousins and Minnesota last week and with the Eagles likely to score, if not at will then certainly regularly enough throughout the game, the 43.5 point line looks a touch on the low side, particularly with the primetime feel around these two entertaining quarterbacks.
