NFL 2023 – San Francisco 49ers @ Minnesota Vikings Tips and Betting Preview

The NFL 2023 week concludes as always with the Monday Night Football which this week sees two NFC teams clashing when the Minnesota Vikings look to double the losses suffered by the San Francisco 49ers this season.

The Vikings are trailing the Lions by a fair way in the NFC North but they have already seen Detroit lose this week so they have the chance to close the gap a little here. San Francisco lead the way in the NFC West and will hope to pull further clear here.

Minnesota Vikings

After beginning their season with three straight defeats, things are beginning to look up for the Minnesota Vikings as they have won two of their last three matches, although you would be hard pushed to suggest that there has been much that has been convincing about those wins. We shouldn’t forget that the Vikings are missing their stud on offense with Justin Jefferson out injured and that is after losing a key piece in their offense in the close season.

Minnesota are yet to win at home this season so that is something they will look to put right here. Their two wins have come in Carolina and in Chicago and with no disrespect meant they are two sides that Minnesota would be expected to beat. If they are going to win this one their offense will need to come up with some big plays but their defence will have to play some lights out ball because San Francisco bring a real power with them.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers were looking like the real deal but then they went to Cleveland Browns last week and were surprisingly beaten and now they have to come out and show that result was merely a blip rather than anything significant in their season. At 5-1 they are certainly well placed to achieve the aims they will have had this season but they will have had their pride bruised last week which might well make them a dangerous animal to face here.

The San Francisco defence will be out to make strides here and against an offense which hasn’t put up more than 21 points in their last three matches they will fancy their chances of getting stuck in. The offense will need to work without the services of Deebo Samuel but with him being out it is probably important that Christian McCaffrey does look set to play. Brock Purdy continues to impress at quarterback and he’ll be eager to get back to winning ways here.

Betting

I’m a little surprised that San Francisco 49ers are only being asked to give up less than a touchdown in this match because I do think there is a clear gulf between the two sides, especially while Justin Jefferson is watching from the sides. I think the fact that the Niners were beaten last week will just make them even tougher to face here and a Minnesota Vikings who have a bit to prove this term might feel the full force of them.

Minnesota Vikings have beaten Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears like you would have expected them to and will point out that all four of their losses have been one score games but the only two real teams of note they have faced they lost by six to the Philadelphia Eagles when they had the services of Jefferson available to them and then lost by seven against the Kansas City Chiefs. This San Francisco defence will make life tough to score and if they keep Minnesota honest I think Brock Purdy will deliver a comfortable 49ers win.
