NFL 2024 – Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Giants Tips and Betting Preview

Another huge day of action in the NFL 2024 season concludes in the Sunday Night Football which this week takes us to the MetLife Stadium as two struggles look to repair their campaign when the New York Giants host the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Giants go into the match 2-3 for the year but have already seen Washington lose at the top of their division while the Bengals are 1-4 and are already probably only battling for a playoff spot so they really need to get winning and fast.

New York Giants

The New York Giants looked like a team who were in for a serious season of struggle after they lost their opening two matches of the campaign but they deserve a bit of credit for winning two of the three since then. You can’t really make a case for a win over the Cleveland Browns being much of a form guide but the victory against the Seattle Seahawks last week was much more of a statement win and one which gives them a decent platform to build on.

The big thing for the Giants is that defensively they look decent enough. You can pick holes in one of their two opponents but they kept Minnesota and Seattle relatively within check but they have had their issues offensively. They still remain and they have a point to prove on that side of the ball, especially with Devin Singletary ruled out of this match, but there are signs of life from them as they go in search of a first home win of the year.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals have got stuck in the starting traps this season. They have only won one of their five matches and that was against a bang average Carolina Panthers side. I don’t think anyone was too surprised that they lost their opening two matches, that seems to happen every season with the Bengals and then their third match saw them face a rampant Washington Commanders side so they have been playing under pressure for a while and that remains on them here.

To be fair to the Bengals, they pushed Baltimore close last week taking them to overtime but there was a period late on in that match where they were on top only for an interception to come along and from that moment onwards there was only ever going to be one winner of the match. At least the offense is firing for the Bengals now though. They will need their defence to come and help them at some point but maybe that side of the ball won’t be under that much heat here.

Betting

The point total for this match has dropped a little in the 48 hours leading up to the match but I don’t really see why that would be because there are no weather issues and even if the Giants’ leading receiver Malik Nabers doesn’t play again, Big Blue moved the chains easily enough without him against the Seattle Seahawks last week and now they face a defence which can only be described as horrendous over the last few weeks and actually getting worse rather than better.

The point line for this match is now 44.5 for an acceptable price and that just looks very low to me when you consider it brings a 24-21 game into play. When you consider that in two of the last three weeks Cincinnati have conceded 38 points or more this line looks very low. The Giants defence is going well but the Bengals have one of the best offenses in the league and Joe Burrow is beginning to light up. I don’t see why New York won’t feed on this Bengals defence so I like the over here.
