Week 13 of the NFL 2024 season concludes with another Monday Night Football which this week takes us to Colorado where the Denver Broncos look to stay on track in the race for a wildcard spot when they host the Cleveland Browns.
Denver currently occupy the seventh spot in the AFC and a win here will preserve it but a defeat will open the door for the chasing pack. The Browns are playing the role of spoiler from here on in and have a big party to spoil here.
Denver Broncos
When the Denver Broncos lost their opening two matches under their rookie quarterback there were plenty who thought this would be a season of struggle for Sean Payton and his men but as Bo Nix has warmed to the task, Denver have gone 7-3 since then for a 7-5 record overall with those three defeats all being to teams with winning records so they should be confident that they can get the job done against a team with one of the worst records in the league.
The strength of this Denver side is their defence. Even the Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t get any joy against it. In fact, only the Baltimore Ravens have really exposed it and there is no shame in that because they have exposed most teams in the league. With the defence going well it means that there isn’t the huge pressure on Bo Nix to deliver that there might be at other teams so when he goes well the Broncos are going to be extremely tough to beat.

Cleveland Browns
I don’t think anyone at the Cleveland Browns would have expected them to be 3-8 for their season but that is where they are going into this match. I would imagine their supporters are most annoyed at the fact that the latest two wins have come against the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers which shows that they have massively underperformed throughout the remainder of the campaign. They face another side with a winning record to prove their worth once again here.
The big problem that the Browns have had all season has been on offense. When their offense has proved its worth their defence has come to the party but when the offense has struggled the defence has gassed. You wouldn’t think that will be an issue here with this match being the Monday night game but the more time the offense can spend on the field the better that it will help them. They have the tools to win this but need to show it in the match.
Betting
I’m not expecting a classic contest here. I think this is one the Denver Broncos will just want to win and get out of relatively unscathed and go into their bye week on a bit of a high rather than running up the score or anything like that. Even if they did want to run up the score this Cleveland Browns defence isn’t one that you can take liberties with. To be fair to Bo Nix, he is improving all the time but I would be surprised if he tears the Browns apart.
On the other side of things, the Cleveland offense has really struggled this season and if that continues then this isn’t going to be a high scoring game because the Denver defence has been really good throughout the year. While Denver are improving offensively you would still say that the defences are the strength of these two teams and that makes me think that a 43 point line is a little too high. We are probably going to need a competitive game to cover that and I’m not sure we get one but even if we do a few drives ending in field goals keeps us below this total.
