We have a double header in the NFL 2024 Monday Night Football this week with the first of the two matches to kick off seeing two AFC rivals colliding at Orchard Park where the Buffalo Bills host the Jacksonville Jaguars.
These two sides have started the season in completely opposite fashion with the Bills winning both of their matches and the Jaguars losing both of theirs so it will be interesting to see if the form holds up or if there is a shock in the making.
Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills haven’t been the strong sort of side that we have seen from them in previous seasons but when you consider the sort of players that they lost in the close season they probably never were going to be. All you can do is win though and the more wins this new breed of team puts up the quicker they will gel and gather in confidence. They are already out in front in the AFC East and a win here will have them in a very nice early position.
While the eyes would suggest that Buffalo haven’t looked as explosive as they have in the past in their opening two matches, they have still put up more than 30 points in both games. Arizona made their defence look a little silly in the first match of the season but that side of the ball rebounded well last week and now they head back home in decent shape and looking for another strong performance from Josh Allen to guide them to a 3-0 start.

Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars were not touted to do anything special going into the season. One of the reasons for that was the emergence of the Houston Texans in the AFC South but also because the Jaguars didn’t finish last season well having lost five of their last six matches. They have opened up this campaign with a pair of defeats so that is now seven losses in eight in competitive games, a run they need to snap soon and will be hoping is ended here.
The Jaguars can point out that they have lost both of their matches by one score but their offense hasn’t really looked like it is going to cause any troubles. That is going to need to change here you would imagine but these primetime games can often elevate the performance of a team. The Jaguars haven’t been shredded on defence though and that is something that will give them some confidence as they go in search of their first win of the season.
Betting
On the face of it the Buffalo Bills have won both matches and won them fairly well but the Arizona Cardinals were 17-3 up on them in the opening week and they are no great shakes and in the second match Tua Tagovailoa exited early with a concussion so I’m not convinced the form is actually as strong as you can make it out to be on paper. With that in mind, I think it could be worth chancing the Jacksonville Jaguars on the +5.5 spread.
They have stayed within that in two what you would have to argue are ordinary defeats to the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns but there is a chance that this Buffalo defence isn’t as good as either of those and that the Jaguars will offer up their best offensive display of the season here. There is nothing to suggest the Buffalo aerial threat is anything like it was and Jacksonville can certainly hold their end up in the run defence. The Bills do have the long week on their side but I still think the Jaguars are getting a couple of points too many here.
