NFL 2024 – New Orleans Saints @ Kansas City Chiefs Tips and Betting Preview

Week 5 of the NFL 2024 season closes out at Arrowhead Stadium when the Monday Night Football heads there for the clash between the defending champions Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints.

The Chiefs have started their season undefeated and although they haven’t always looked convincing in that time they are in full control of their destiny. New Orleans flew out of the traps this term but have come to a bit of a halt in recent weeks.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have started their season with four matches and four wins but those victories have come from a cumulative 20 points. That doesn’t matter in American sports where we are not playing for point difference or anything so it can’t be held against them but it does show that this isn’t the relentless Chiefs team that has dominated the league over the last few seasons. Winning is a habit though and Kansas City certainly have it.

What the Chiefs also have though is a number of injuries beginning to mount up. They have been without Isaiah Pacheco to a season ending injury and now Rashee Rice is on the sidelines as well so if the Chiefs are going to make things as easy for themselves as they can then the Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce combination is going to need to come to the party. The good thing for the Chiefs is that their defence are operating to a decent level which is keeping them in matches and getting the job done.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints came out of the starting blocks in fine form this season with wins in their opening two matches but things have come a little to a halt in the two weeks since then. Those wins were emphatic victories against the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys with the Saints’ offense putting up 40 points on both occasions. They have since dropped matches to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons so will be looking to get back to winning ways here.

They have lost by three points and two points so it wasn’t like they were blown away in them. The second of those losses last week came without them giving up an offensive touchdown so if they can tidy up on special teams and make sure that they don’t make costly errors when they have the ball there is nothing to suggest they can’t be competitive in this match, especially if they can get their explosive run game going right from the start of the contest.

Betting

My gut feeling is that I should be looking to get on the New Orleans Saints in some fashion but I hate betting against teams who know how get the job done even when they haven’t been impressing because at some point they might catch fire and that would spell trouble. I am going to play on my hunch that the Saints will be more than competitive here though and use the scenario of them being in front at some point on the scoreboard to my favour.

That bet comes in the form of a player prop market which is the receiving yards line for Travis Kelce. I don’t think Patrick Mahomes is going to have much choice but to rekindle the elite partnership which has taken the Chiefs to all the success that they have had in recent years. There were shades of it coming back last week when the tight end caught seven passes for 89 yards and now he has a 58.5 yard line for this one. In the recent defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Saints surrendered 170 yards from 10 catches to tight end Dallas Goedert and even the Dallas secondary tight end got stuck in the week prior to that. Kelce is about to become a focal point in the passing game again and this line feels low with that in mind.
