The last match of the wildcard round of the NFL Playoffs comes from Philadelphia as the Philadelphia Eagles begin their postseason quest for another Super Bowl title when they host the Seattle Seahawks in what should be a cracking contest.
The Eagles eventually got home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs by landing the NFC East title while the Seahawks couldn’t quite overcome San Francisco in the NFC West and are forced to go on the road for this contest.
Philadelphia Eagles
No team in the NFL playoffs have a worse record for the regular season than the Philadelphia Eagles but because of the quirky nature of the layout of the postseason they get to host a match in the first round courtesy of winning their division. You could argue that the Eagles have lucked out in that regard, and now they have to attempt to make the most of that good fortune and get down to the business of winning.
The Eagles have done well to overcome some pretty hefty injuries on offense to win their division but they are going to need a serious upgrade in performances if they are to go deep in the competition. Their defence in particular is likely to need to improve but to be fair to the Eagles they have won their last four matches coming into this contest, and quite often there can be no substitute for confidence.

Seattle Seahawks
For much of the season the Seattle Seahawks were battling it out with the San Francisco 49ers for a much stronger NFC West title but they were unable to pip their rivals on the final week of the season. They need to get over that disappointment pretty quickly because if they win here, there is every chance they will be facing the same opposition next week for a spot in the NFC Championship final.
It is known that the Seahawks have a few problems with injuries at the present time, to the extent that they had to bring Marshawn Lynch out of retirement and now Robert Turbin is back with the side too so although they are stocked in the running back department again, it is not exactly ideal. It might be that the play of Russell Wilson is what gets this done for the Seahawks, although their defence does tend to come good at playoff time.
Betting
Bookmakers have this one as a pick ‘em match but I like the Seattle Seahawks here. I accept that Philadelphia Eagles are full of confidence having won their last four matches but those wins came against sides with 15 wins to their name in total in the regular season. It goes without saying that this is a massive upgrade on that sort of opposition. These two met on this ground earlier in the season and the Seahawks won 17-9.
I’m not sure this one will be quite as low scoring as that one was but I do expect the outcome to be the same. I trust the Seattle defence more than I do that of the Eagles’ and the quarterback play of Russell Wilson will have the potential to standout here too. You would imagine this will be relatively tight just because it is a playoff game but in the NFC West the Seahawks have played to that intensity for most of the season and that can see them over the line here.
