The NFL season is coming thick and fast and on Thursday night we begin week six of the season and it kicks off with a divisional match between the San Diego Chargers and the reigning champions Denver Broncos.
The Broncos suffered a first defeat last week and will be looking to bounce back in this match while the Chargers just can’t seem to get over the line and need to start winning soon to keep a competitive edge to their season.
San Diego Chargers
You don’t really have to do too much searching to see what is going wrong with the Chargers. They have leaked more than 30pts in three of their five matches so far and if they are to have any chance in this match they are going to have to tighten up defensively. Keeping their offense on the field will be one way of protecting their defence.
With injuries to the likes of Keenan Allen that isn’t going to be easy though. Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates and Melvin Gordon will need to be at their best to give the Bolts a chance but against this elite defence that isn’t going to be at all easy.
Denver Broncos
It was a first defeat for Denver on Sunday but they lost to the form side Atlanta Falcons and they were without their starting quarterback Trevor Siemian who was out injured and Paxton Lynch never really gave off much confidence and their offense suffered as a result.
Interestingly the Falcons went straight for this defence and had plenty of success and it will be interesting to see if the Broncos make any changes off the back of that or whether they just accept they hit a side in excellent form with plenty of confidence. I don’t think they will panic but they will be without their coach Gary Kubiak who ended up in hospital after the last game with flu like symptoms.
Betting
It looks like Siemian will be back for the Denver Broncos here and I’m expecting them to win the game. Even if he isn’t back I think the champions can win this one on defence alone. San Diego can’t seem to stop any offense at the minute and while Philip Rivers’ quality is keeping them in matches they’ve faced nothing like the defence this season that they go up against here.
I guess it is only because Siemian hasn’t been confirmed as a starter yet that we can get a -3 on the Broncos. I’m expecting that line to move if and when he is confirmed but even if he isn’t Lynch should be able to guide Denver to the win in this match.
