NFL: Thursday Night Football – Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans Betting Preview

Another week of NFL action begins as ever on Thursday night and this week the curtain raiser is another divisional battle although this time between two of the poorer sides in the league as the Tennessee Titans play host to their AFC South rivals Jacksonville Jaguars.

Houston’s defeat on Monday night has opened the door for these sides to get themselves back in the divisional picture but they can only do that with a win so the action should be competitive even if not of the quality we come to expect.

Tennessee Titans

A two match winning streak was snapped by the Indianapolis Colts last week but off the back of a short week and a home game the Titans will be looking to pick up the baton and run with it again here. Their wins came against Miami and Cleveland though so if you were being critical you’d question exactly what they’ve beaten.

The Titans run game is in good order with DeMarco Murray the third leading rusher in the league in terms of yardage this season and they rank sixth against the run defensively too so they are key statistics heading into the match. They are getting to the quarterback too with only Denver and Buffalo having more than their 20 sacks on the season.

Jacksonville Jaguars

A lot of people were expecting to see a real improvement from the Jaguars this season. They had a good young side to build on and drafted very well but it hasn’t really happened for them yet. They need something to kick start them into life and will hope they can get a win here which could be a catalyst for their season to turn around.

Defensively the Jaguars match up fairly well although a lack of a pass rush is a concern but they need to find a way to get their offense firing. Allen Robinson hasn’t got going at all this season and they are struggling to run the ball at the minute as well and these are things which are really holding them back.

Betting

This isn’t an easy match to bet on. Both sides are masters in finding ways to lose and I wouldn’t be confident having my money on either of them in truth. If I could have got a -3 on the Titans I might well have taken it as I do think they will ride home advantage to win the game but the 3.5 is just a little too high.

I’m pretty certain there will be turnovers in this match and which way they go will probably decide the outcome of it but I’m not prepared to guess on things like that. Under 43pts is tempting too but if the turnovers head back to the end zone that all of a sudden doesn’t look too pretty either although I do expect the offenses to struggle. All in all there’s nothing I’m comfortable backing so I’ll wait for better opportunities over the weekend.
