It is another NFL Sunday which means there is another $1m up for grabs with our official fantasy partners at Draftkings when playing DFS Fantasy Football.
As ever we are here with our thoughts on who to pick and who to avoid when picking your teams in the hope of guiding you towards that huge first prize.
Quarterbacks
PICK – Philip Rivers (San Diego) $6,500
We’ve picked the San Diego trigger man in a few of our teams this season and we’re not ready to dump him just yet. Atlanta might be blazing a trail in the NFC South but they do give up plenty of points to quarterbacks not least because sides are having to chase matches. The Chargers could be in the same position which in turn should lead to lots of points for Rivers.
PICK – Andy Dalton (Cincinnati) $6,000
The Bengals quarterback hasn’t set the world on fire yet this season but he has a favourable match up against the Cleveland Browns and at this price we’re more than happy to have him on side. The Browns have given up 16 touchdown passes this season and there could well be a few more to come here.
AVOID – Andrew Luck (Indianapolis) $7,000
Andrew Luck is only struggling by his own high standards this season but he is up against a defence who isn’t likely to give him much respite and with a couple of key weapons struggling both with fitness and form this might not be the sort of day we would like from a man taking up such a portion of our budget. We’ll give him a miss.
AVOID – Carson Palmer (Arizona) $5,700
Quarterbacks have been getting short change from the Legion of Boom for a couple of seasons and more and we don’t see Carson Palmer being any different. Palmer is struggling to connect with the long ball which isn’t helping his points tally and with David Johnson in such good form he is likely to take away from the passing game. Sit the veteran this week.
Running Backs
PICK – LeSean McCoy (Buffalo) $7,600
Buffalo head to Florida to take on a Miami side with the second worst run defence in the league. McCoy is one of the best backs going around so it stands to reason that he’s going to have a monster game especially if the Bills dominate like we’re expecting.
PICK – Tevin Coleman (Atlanta) $4,900
San Diego have been horrible against the run all season and Coleman has shot to prominence. Not only is he excellent in the run game but he has been a focal point of the passing offense at times too. He’s excellent in the red zone so he looks a nice priced option to back up McCoy in our teams.
PICK – James White (New England) $4,600
Jay Ajayi has just burnt this Pittsburgh defence for over 200 yards on his own so you would think that New England are going to feast on that as well. White has been getting a lot of important snaps over the last couple of weeks and with yards and touchdowns on offer here we fancy there could be a big game from the Patriots back.
PICK – Jacquizz Rodgers (Tampa Bay) $4,300
Tampa Bay might not always be in the spotlight but they face the worst rushing defence in the entire league here so in theory Rodgers should have plenty of joy on Sunday. The 49ers have surrendered nine touchdowns on the ground and are giving up 174.5 yards per game on average so look to the Bucs back to run riot here.
AVOID – Matt Forte (New York Jets) $5,000
Baltimore have the best run defence in the league so the potential for the former Chicago back to score big is restricted at best. This is likely to be a tough match up for the entire Jets offense so this is one to avoid this week.
AVOID – Latavius Murray (Oakland) $4,400
Tennessee are more than competent at defending the run themselves and so this might not be the best game in terms of output for Oakland’s leading back. Even as a relatively cheap option he doesn’t possess the upside and given that he’s nursing a toe injury we don’t want any of him this week.
Wide Receivers
PICK – AJ Green (Cincinnati) $8,600
Green is averaging over 20pts a game this season and that should be bettered against this Cleveland Browns side. Along with Julio Jones, Green is the best wideout in the league so having taken his quarterback earlier it makes sense to take the elite receiver even at this price.
PICK – Allen Robinson (Jacksonville) $7,300
It is fair to say that Allen Robinson has struggled this season but this match up with the worst passing defence in the league could be just what he needs. Oakland are simply terrible against the pass and if Bortles can find some poise in the pocket he should be able to connect with his star receiver all day.
PICK – Mike Wallace (Baltimore) $5,800
With Steve Smith Sr out there will be more targets for Mike Wallace and against a Jets defence who keep coughing up yards to the deep ball his pace could well get him in the position to launch some big plays. He’s likely to see plenty of the action and if he can torch this secondary a couple of times we could be looking at a monster score.
PICK – Jamison Crowder (Washington) $4,300
Detroit’s passing defence have been giving up huge numbers to wide receivers all season and both Crowder and DeSean Jackson should have massive games. If you are looking for a cheap option to fit into a team then Crowder is the one but if the budget stretches enough for Jackson he is also a good pick.
AVOID – Jordan Matthews (Philadelphia) $5,600
Pretty simple one this. Minnesota’s defence is as elite as it comes right now and with the rookie Wentz just starting to struggle in the big moments we are not expecting too much in the way of point scoring from Matthews especially as other targets have shot to prominence.
AVOID – Golden Tate (Detroit) $4,900
Tate had a monster performance last week but he is up against a tough defence here and potentially a clash with a top level quarterback. With Stafford not likely to be as free as he would like his main receiver might lack for catches.
Tight Ends
PICK – Delanie Walker (Tennessee) $4,900
It has been a while since Indianapolis has been able to track down and stop opposing tight ends and there is nothing to suggest that is going to change here. Walker could be a really solid option for Mariota especially in the red zone so have him in your sides this week.
PICK – Hunter Henry (San Diego) $3,600
The rookie in San Diego has actually outshone Antonio Gates in recent weeks and with a good match up against a poor Atlanta side against the pass we like him again this week. He should bump up a team score nicely and he isn’t very expensive which is perfect if we are trying to shoehorn more established stars in.
AVOID – Kyle Rudolph (Minnesota) $3,500
On the face of it Kyle Rudolph is going very well this season but he is up against the best defence in the league in terms of shutting out tight ends. Philadelphia have allowed just one touchdown to a tight end all season and that is more than enough to put us off the Vikings beast.
Defences
PICK – Buffalo Bills $3,400
We’ve still seen nothing from Miami to suggest that the Bills can’t run up the points on defence here. If the Bills can control Ajayi and force Tannehill to make plays their defence can step up and be in business. Keep the Bills on side here.
PICK – Baltimore Ravens $2,800
A match up against this misfiring Jets offense looks like the perfect spot for the Ravens defence. They will restrict the run which puts the ball in Fitzpatrick’s hands and we’ve seen a few times this season already that it isn’t necessarily a good thing to be in that position. Given the potential for big plays this Ravens defence is quite cheap here.
AVOID – Pittsburgh Steelers $2,700
Pittsburgh go into this match off the back of surrendering a crazy number of yards to Miami last week and now they face an elite offense with more options than they can shake a stick at. With Big Ben out the defence might spend a lot of time on the field and get gassed and that could lead to a nasty amount of points conceded.
