The final session of darts in 2022 comes from the PDC World Darts Championship on Friday evening when the last 16 of the tournament concludes inside Alexandra Palace leaving us with the quarter final line up at the end of the night.
We have three matches on the schedule with three of the top six in the world on show against three of the more dangerous outsiders in the tournament so we should be closing out the calendar year with a special night of darts.
Rob Cross vs Chris Dobey
The opening match of the night sees the former world champion Rob Cross on show as he looks to make it back into the quarter final at the expense of the rising star Chris Dobey who is aiming to reach the last eight for the first time.
Cross has oozed class in this tournament and he will seriously fancy his chances over the next few days but Dobey hasn’t shirked the challenge in the event so far either and is starting to play the sort of darts on TV that we would expect from him. Dobey has scored well in his two matches and has finished pretty crisply. He hasn’t been perfect but that is good as there is more to come from him. Cross has seen off two decent challenges with the minimum of fuss and I’m expecting a really close match here. I’m on Dobey to win this quarter so I’m hoping he comes through to give me a shot at the big money but rather than back him to do that I’ll take him to cover a 7.5 180 line, something he covered in five sets against Anderson and should get even longer to do it here.

Michael van Gerwen vs Dirk van Duijvenbode
The pick of the matches on the evening is the second one as ever and it is an all-Dutch battle as Michael van Gerwen takes on the World Series Finals runner up in the form of Dirk van Duijvenbode in what promises to be a cracking encounter.
Van Gerwen has been excellent in this tournament so far. He went through the gears in his win over Lewy Williams in the second round and then came out in top gear and maintained it throughout his match with Mensur Suljovic. He is going to be exceptionally hard for van Duivenbode to beat but Dirk has the potential to cause anyone to wilt with his aggressive persona and his incredibly heavy scoring. You would imagine the all-round consistency of van Gerwen will have him win the day here but if van Duijvenbode comes out firing on the doubles and gets MVG at it early you just never know. I’m not going to oppose van Gerwen but I fancy DvD will keep him honest and if he does that he is more than capable of covering an 8.5 180 line, something he has done in the five sets in his first game and obliterated in the seven sets of his third round clash with Ross Smith where he hit 12 180s, the ninth of which came in the fifth set. Five sets here should be enough for Dirk to cover this line again but there is the potential for more than that so I like the over.
Luke Humphries vs Stephen Bunting
The final match in the last 16 looks another belter on paper as Luke Humphries bids to make it back to the quarter final against a Stephen Bunting who has reached the semi-final of this tournament before and will be within one win of replicating that should he be successful.
Humphries has had to come through two deciding sets in this tournament to make it into this match which is both a bad thing in terms of he has had his nerves tested but a good thing in that he is battle hardened and knows he can hold himself together under pressure. Bunting has had it easier but that is because he has played so well. He averaged over 100 in beating Dave Chisnall on Thursday afternoon and he is more than capable of going again at that level here. With the natural rhythm these two throw at this should be a great watch and given their heavy scoring power and the potential for it to be tight I’m expecting the 180s to flow throughout this one too. Between them they hit 17 180s in their matches on Thursday and I think they can clear 15.5 of them here.
