Premier League 2021-22 – Saturday 12th February Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

Another weekend of Premier League action gets underway on Saturday on a day which should have featured six matches but has been reduced to five with Chelsea away at the Club World Cup. It should still be an important day in the competition nevertheless.

As with most Saturdays we have two of the five matches live on the TV to enjoy and then there are the normal ways of keeping up to date with the other three games on a day where the top and the bottom of the table are in the spotlight.

Early Kick Off

The action begins at Old Trafford where two sides who had different results in midweek meet as Manchester United, who could only draw away to bottom club Burnley, play host to Southampton who went to Tottenham and won on Wednesday evening and will be looking to knock another of the ‘big six’ off here. Despite all the doom and gloom United are four unbeaten in the Premier League while Southampton have made it into the top 10 and will be looking to push on from here.

3pm Matches

We are down to the three matches in the traditional 3pm slot with the pick of them being the one which features two sides who everyone think are too good to go down but until they start picking up points could certainly fall through the trap door as Everton play a first Premier League game to home under Frank Lampard when they take on a Leeds United side who despite their injuries have picked up seven points from the last 12 available.

The other two matches contain three mid-table sides and another who are deep in relegation trouble. One of them is a London derby as Brentford welcome Crystal Palace to the western part of the capital while up in the northern part of it Watford will play at home for the first time under Roy Hodgson. They will take on a Brighton and Hove Albion side who haven’t played in the league for the better part of three weeks so will need to have avoided rust setting in during that time although they have played in the FA Cup since then.

Late Game

The action concludes with what looks like a bit of a mismatch on paper when struggling Norwich City host the current champions and the champions elect in the eyes of most judges in the form of Manchester City. To be fair to Norwich, they have picked up seven points from the last nine available which has given themselves a wonderful chance of staying up, although they play Liverpool after this match so the fixtures are about to be very unkind to them. City can go 12 points clear at the top for a day at least as title rivals Liverpool don’t play until Saturday.

Betting

There isn’t a huge amount that I like the look of here. Southampton did tempt me but I’m not a massive fan of betting the early kick off and Manchester United played the night before Saints during the week so there is enough of a concern to leave that alone. That leaves me with the match featuring Everton and Leeds United at Goodison Park where I am expecting to see plenty of goals, much like we saw when the two sides met at Elland Road earlier in the season.

That was a 2-2 draw when Rafa Benitez was in charge and that highlights the potential Everton have to score in this match because Frank Lampard will adopt a much more offensive approach than his predecessor did. He will be concerned if his Everton team can’t score against a Leeds side who have shipped 15 goals in their last four away matches. Leeds do score on the road though and Everton can’t defend as we saw in midweek so I’m fully expecting this to be full of goal action. I’m surprised the goal line for this one is under three but I’m more than happy to take the over.
