Premier League 2021-22 – Saturday 5th March Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The big weekend of Premier League action begins on Saturday when we have seven matches across the course of the day, a set of fixtures in which the chasing pack get the chance to put a little heat on the leaders Manchester City.

The format for Saturday is the same as most others in that we start and finish with a TV game and then the other five matches take place in the usual slot at 3pm where the regular ways of staying updated on those will apply.

Early Kick Off

The action will begin at the King Power Stadium where Leicester City will go in search of a second successive win in the Premier League when they host Leeds United. This is the match in which the Whites will begin the post-Marcelo Bielsa era with Jesse Marsch leading the side for the first time. After three monumental beatings Leeds are in desperate need of points but Leicester will be eager for a victory too to begin to right a pretty ordinary season.

3pm Matches

There are five matches in the traditional 3pm kick off slot on Saturday afternoon and the biggest one as far as the table is concerned comes at Turf Moor where Burnley will look to escape the bottom three for the first time this season when they welcome third placed Chelsea who will need to keep picking up points to ensure they are not reeled in by the teams chasing fourth place. Things are getting pretty important at the bottom end of the table and the Carrow Road clash between Norwich City and Brentford could be a defining one for both teams.

Wolves still have every chance of being in Europe next season but they need to snap a two-match losing streak when they play host to Crystal Palace. The other two matches sees an improving Newcastle United hosting Brighton and Hove Albion while FA Cup quarter finalists Southampton will look to use the confidence from progression in that competition when they head to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa in what is a key match for the Villans who have a tough stretch of fixtures coming up.

Late Game

The action concludes at Anfield where Liverpool will look to move to within three points of Manchester City in the race for the title when they welcome Champions League chasing West Ham United in the evening kick off. West Ham are beginning to fade a little and their exit from the FA Cup in midweek won’t have done much to change that. Liverpool built on the success of their win in the Carabao Cup last weekend to make it into the quarter final of the FA Cup and talk of a quadruple is beginning to intensify.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the day. As I said last week, I’m not a fan of betting the early game but for the second week in a row Leeds United are involved in it and I’m not sure Jesse Marsch is going to hit the ground running. Marcelo Bielsa was adored at Leeds and his name is probably going to ring around the away end at the King Power Stadium. The reason the Argentine was sent on his way was because Leeds just couldn’t keep the ball out of the back of the net. Some of that was structural but injuries are a large part of it too and Marsch doesn’t have any key players back for this match. He might organise them defensively better in time but whether he can get average players for this level to tighten up inside a week remains to be seen. I would be surprised if Leicester City don’t get at this Leeds defence but as has been the case for a while it is hard to see Leicester not having trouble with this Leeds attack, even if it isn’t quite as all-out as it was under Bielsa. You can get 5/6 on over 3 goals here and that looks good to me.

The other bet I like is for an improving Newcastle United side to get the better of Brighton and Hove Albion. I won’t back them without draw cover because Brighton are the draw specialists of the league but Albion have a terrible record without Adam Webster in their side and he is going to be missing here. What makes that absence worse in this match is that the Seagulls go up against Dan Burn who they sold to Newcastle in January and who could probably have done a decent job as the replacement for Webster. Newcastle have won four of their last five matches and are looking up. Brighton have lost their last three, the latest two being at home to Burnley and Aston Villa without scoring in either. It is just one win in seven for Brighton now and they look to be finding the going just a little bit tough at the minute. Newcastle are improving by the game despite some key injuries and I think if there is a winner here it will be them who get it.
