Preview

The televised action largely revolves around the battle to avoid relegation to begin with as Newcastle United will look to pull further clear of the drop zone when they host an Aston Villa side who are lacking a little bit of consistency at the minute. When they are done the attention will switch to the race for the Champions League places where West Ham United will be hoping to put three more points between them and the chasing pack. They will have to go to Leicester City and win in order for that to happen.

Two of the big six are on show in the other two matches. Liverpool are back to being 12 points behind Manchester City again so they will know that in order to keep their feint hopes of winning the Premier League alive they won’t be able to afford to slip up against bottom of the table Burnley, who themselves will be desperate for points to ease their relegation concerns. Two sides who suffered defeats in midweek meet in the other game as Tottenham Hotspur will look to bounce back from their loss to Southampton when they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the capital. Wolves lost to Arsenal on Thursday night and won’t want successive defeats.

Betting

I would have been tempted by Tottenham Hotspur at any sort of acceptable price here but 4/6 isn’t it so I’ll take two bets on the day and they both come in the TV matches where I’m expecting goals in both. Newcastle United have found their mojo at the minute but won’t be resting on their laurels as they look to pull clear of the danger zone. They will look to get after an Aston Villa defence that will be missing Ezri Konsa in this contest. You’ve got to think the Villa front three will help themselves to chances against a Newcastle defence that hasn’t been good all season so over 2.5 goals looks a natural bet here.

The line is slighter higher in the second match of the afternoon but the principles are the same when Leicester City host West Ham United. Leicester have been terrible defensively throughout the season and if any team in this league is going to expose their weaknesses at set pieces then it is going to be the Hammers. West Ham aren’t as convincing defensively as you might expect them to be though. Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Southampton have all exposed this defence recently and while Leicester are in a slump, they still carry plenty of attacking threat about them. This fixture has a history of goals both here at the King Power Stadium and at the London Stadium. I expect that trend to continue here.
