The FA Cup affected set of fixtures in the Premier League conclude on Sunday afternoon when the last two matches take place on an afternoon where the race for the Champions League and battle to avoid the drop will be under the spotlight.
With the second semi-final taking place at Wembley we have just one match on the Super Sunday show this week but both matches kick off at the same time so I’m assuming the TV coverage will contain regular updates of what is going on elsewhere. We’ll begin the preview with the TV game.
Newcastle United vs Leicester City (14.15 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)
The televised action comes on Sunday from St James’ Park where Newcastle United will be aiming to build on their win over Wolves last time out when they host the now Europa Conference League semi-finalists Leicester City.
In reality this is a bit of a nothing match. Newcastle United aren’t going down now and Leicester City aren’t really going anywhere and will surely soon switch their focus solely on the Conference League as their route back into Europe next season. Nevertheless, there are points to be played for. I suspect Newcastle might be more up for this given that they are not mathematically safe although the bottom two will need snookers to catch them the way they are playing and Burnley aren’t much better. Brendan Rodgers will surely rotate his players but his side are getting defenders back and when they have a settled defence they are a much better side than their league position would suggest. I think this one is best left alone.

West Ham United vs Burnley (14.15)
The match away from the UK TV cameras comes from the London Stadium which should be bouncing after the heroics West Ham United performed in Europe in midweek. They host Burnley who shocked everyone when they dismissed Sean Dyche on Good Friday.
The natural assumption was that he was sacked so close to the season because Burnley had a successor lined up but that doesn’t appear to be the case as it is an interim group of coaches taking charge for this match. I’m not convinced that is going to yield three points here. To be fair, I did think that we were approaching the time where West Ham would sack the league off and focus fully on winning the Europa League to make the Champions League but the Spurs and Arsenal results on Saturday might need to put that on the backburner for another week or so. A win here will move West Ham level on points with Arsenal and three behind Tottenham and while the Hammers would have played more games than their fellow Londoners, those two are showing signs of strain and have to play each other too. West Ham should be buoyant after their win over Lyon in midweek and with whoever is taking charge of affairs at Burnley having had less than 48hrs to prepare for this match I only see a fairly comfortable Hammers win here.
