Premier League 2021-22 – Tottenham vs Everton Tips, TV and Betting Preview

Two under pressure sides meet to round off the Premier League weekend on the Monday Night Football when Tottenham Hotspur host Everton in a clash which is going to determine proceedings at both ends of the table.

Spurs sit in seventh place in the table but have enough games in hand to reach the top four if they win them, of which this is one, but you sense the need is even greater for Everton who are now just one point above the drop zone and although they too have more matches left than their rivals things get awkward quickly down that end of the table.

Where to watch

The match will be streamed live and in full as part of the Monday Night Football show which airs on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League. The programme begins at 7pm with the match kicking off at 8pm.

Tottenham Hotspur

To say it has been an up and down period for Tottenham Hotspur recently would be something of an understatement. They appeared to lay a marker down for the remainder of the campaign when they went to the Etihad Stadium and beat the champions but since then they have been humbled at Burnley, walloped a terrible Leeds side and then got dumped out of the cup by Championship side Middlesbrough. Look up the word inconsistent in the dictionary and there is a picture of this Spurs squad next to it.

They were beginning to build up something approaching consistency at home but that looks to have gone out of the window as well with Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers both leaving that part of London with the three points in the last two matches there. Tottenham’s big issue is with their defence. It is an abomination waiting to happen and while they have the attacking talent to do some damage at the other end, there are still no guarantees their defence helps out enough.

Everton

Just one win in nine in the Premier League has sent Everton careering down the table and they will hope that some wins in the FA Cup will make its way into their league play so that they can pull away from danger. The old adage and feeling is that they are too good to go down but they can’t think that way else they will soon find out that isn’t the case. With one or two teams around them showing signs of life Everton need to find some league points quickly.

Lampard was able to rest the majority of his first choice team during the cup win over Boreham Wood on Thursday evening so the Toffees should be relatively fresh for this match but their away form does not paint a pretty picture. They have taken just six points from the 36 available with just the one win which came at Brighton way back in August. That is going to need to change over the next couple of months if they want to guarantee survival.

Team News

Tottenham Hotspur will have Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Moura back in contention for this match which will give them a few more options to go with. Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga remain out with injury however.

Frank Lampard appeared confident that Vitalii Mykolenko will be available for this match although what state his mind will be in is more open to debate. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Demarai Gray are both pushing hard to be involved.

Betting

It is hard to trust statistically the worst away team in the league to win on their travels but Everton might feel they have a chance in this match because Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers have rocked up to Tottenham Hotspur and won in the last few weeks. I can’t be backing Everton although I can see a picture where they do win this game. On the other side of the fence there is zero chance of me having this Spurs defence carrying my hard earned.

That sends me off to the goals market for this match where over 2.5 is a perfectly acceptable 4/5. We’ve seen in the time Frank Lampard has been at Everton that he is struggling to contain sides but on the flip side of that his team do look like scoring which is at least one positive for them. I would much prefer to rely on the two sets of attacking stars in this match than I would two very indifferent looking defences so I’m happy to get stuck into the over in this one.
