The midweek action in the Premier League concludes on Thursday evening when two London rivals battle it out in another big game at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea will keep up their push for Champions League football next term when they host Tottenham Hotspur.
We already know that the main focus of the season now will be the Europa League for Tottenham but they never like to lose to Chelsea and would love to put a dent in their top five hopes. A Chelsea win keeps them in control of their own destiny.
Where to watch
The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League channels with the build-up beginning at 7.30pm ahead of the 8pm kick off.
Chelsea
There was a stage in this season where people were talking about Chelsea being potential title challengers this term. That clearly hasn’t materialised and in fact they have been far too inconsistent for their own liking I’m sure since the turn of the year and they will be looking for a win here to kick their home run of the season into life. While the Blues could still win a European title this term, their overriding aim is a return to the Champions League so this is a big few weeks for them now.
A lot of the issues that Chelsea have had in recent times have been on their travels. They are actually in the middle of a decent run of form at home having won their last four Premier League matches at Stamford Bridge. That should give them a lot of confidence here, although they don’t look the same side without Nicolas Jackson so they will be pleased that he is expected to return to lead the line and stretch the play to take some of the pressure off of the back line.
Tottenham Hotspur
If you listen to Tottenham Hotspur supporters in the main, you would think that their manager Ange Postecoglou is under pressure to deliver the goods but to be fair to the club, there has been no sign that is the case. There are certain matches that as a Tottenham manager your team has to be competitive in though and this would be one of those. If he has his side have a real go here then it will ease some pressure on him, although his Tottenham future would probably depend on how far they go in the Europa League.
Injuries have been a massive issue for Tottenham this season but having had just under three weeks since their previous match you would hope from their point of view that they have been able to get a few bodies back which will allow them to attack the next busy couple of weeks with as much strength as they can. Then it will come down to how well they fare in both boxes. In the opposing box they have been fine in the main this term but in their own one they can be hit or miss which isn’t ideal.

Team News
Enzo Maresca seemed to suggest that Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson are all back fit to feature in this match but the Blues are going to be without midfielder Romeo Lavia for the beginning of the run in.
Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Lucas Bergvall is fine to feature despite illness keeping him out of the two Sweden matches during the international break but the game comes too soon for Richarlison, Kevin Danso and Dejan Kulusevski.
Betting
I can’t say I’m a massive fan of this Chelsea side but they have always looked much better with Nicolas Jackson stretching the play to allow the likes of Cole Palmer the room to operate and with the Senegalese being back for this one we might well see a much improved Chelsea as a result. To be fair to the Blues, a repeat of recent home performances is likely to be enough to get the job done against a side who while they might not admit it, will surely start to have an eye on the next two Thursdays rather than this one.
Whether Tottenham are completely all in on this one or not they are going to concede goals. It is what they do and Chelsea certainly have the artillery to make the most of that, as we saw in the reverse meeting which they won 4-3. The question is whether Chelsea will keep Spurs out but this isn’t a Spurs attack which has been clicking regularly this term so whether the Blues run into a timid Tottenham attacking performance or have to come out on top in a shootout, the likely winners are the home side. 1-0 Chelsea would be a surprise. Man City beat Tottenham 1-0 recently but either side of that six of the last seven Tottenham losses in the Premier League have had more than one goal. 12 of the 14 Chelsea wins this season have been with two or more goals in them so I’ll bump up the price of a home win by adding over 1.5 goals.
