The opening part of the Christmas week of action in the Premier League concludes on Friday night when two more matches take place as we get closer to the halfway point in the campaign in the top flight.
Both matches have a defining feel for the four sides involved about them so the fact that we can watch both of them on TV is definitely no bad thing. Amazon Prime carry the coverage but they do overlap so you’ll need a pair of devices to watch both in full.
Brighton and Hove Albion vs Brentford (19.30)
The opening match of the night is the battle of two clubs whose owners don’t have a great deal of time for each other as Brighton and Hove Albion host Brentford in what is likely to be a feisty affair and potentially a quality one too.
Brighton have dropped down to the middle of the table after a run of five matches without a win and go into this match having only won three of eight home games all season so they feel plenty short enough at solid odds on it has to be said. One of the reasons why they are so short though is that for all the danger they possess in forward areas, Brentford have picked up just one point from eight matches on their travels this season. They are sure to be up for this match but that really isn’t a good away record and while some of those fixtures have been very tough, I need to see a convincing away display before I can get involved in them. Unless cards or booking points are of interest then this is probably best left alone with both in their present form.

Arsenal vs Ipswich Town (20.15)
The last game of the opening round of Christmas fixtures takes us to the Emirates Stadium where Arsenal have the chance to move into second place in the table when they entertain second from bottom Ipswich Town who could do with three points themselves.
Arsenal will clearly have the pressure on them here but this is a chance to finish off 2024 in style and show that they can still hunt down Liverpool over the course of 2025. They will have to do it without Bukayo Saka who isn’t ideal but there is more than enough in the Gunners ranks to get the job done here. Ipswich Town might be more comfortable being on their travels because both of their Premier League wins have come away from home this term but this felt like a tough ask for the Tractor Boys anyway let alone when they are missing their captain Sam Morsy. They do get Liam Delap back from suspension but in truth his physical approach isn’t likely to cut much joy against an Arsenal central defensive pair that love to dish out a physical outlook themselves. I expect Arsenal to completely control the game here and run out fairly comfortable winners but that is reflected on the handicap lines so the best bet might be for Arsenal to win to nil and having kept clean sheets in their last three home Premier League outings, there is every chance of that landing at a nudge under even money.
Tips
Back Arsenal to win to nil for a 3/10 stake at 1.95 with William Hill
