Premier League 2024-25 – Saturday 18th January Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Premier League season continues on Saturday afternoon when half of the division are on show on a day where we are going to see the top of the table very much under the spotlight across the three different kick off times.

Although we only have five matches on Saturday we do still have the usual two TV games to enjoy in the UK and as ever the other three matches will be given regular updates in all of the usual places so we can keep up with them.

Early Kick Off

We begin the day at St James’ Park where the AFC Bournemouth fans are entitled to feel absolutely shattered by kick off after they have been asked to make their way to Newcastle United for a lunchtime start which is pretty ridiculous. Their team could be tired after this one too because they are carrying a few too many injuries for comfort while Newcastle are absolutely flying right now and have the hottest striker in the division in their midst too. A Newcastle win will send them into the top three for 24 hours but Bournemouth can move into the top six for a few hours if they can come away with a win.

3pm Matches

Saturday is a rare day where the leaders Liverpool are in action in the traditional 3pm slot. They have the chance to put the pressure on the chasing pack in the title race when they make the trip to the capital to take on a Brentford side who should be buoyant after recovering from 2-0 down to draw with Manchester City in midweek. At the other end of the table there are two matches of note with Leicester City looking for a much needed three points when they host Fulham at the King Power Stadium. There seems like there can’t be a match day without a London derby and we have one on Saturday too when West Ham United go up against Crystal Palace at the London Stadium.

Late Game

There is no doubt we are saving the best for last on Saturday though as the evening game takes us to the Emirates Stadium where Arsenal will be looking to keep up the heat on Liverpool in the race for the title when they play host to an Aston Villa side who will be keen to pick up their form again and ensure that they are playing European football again next season regardless of what happens to them in the Champions League. Villa won this fixture last term to all but end the Arsenal title hopes so the Gunners will be out to avoid a repeat of that happening once again. Villa can move into the top five with a win here.

Betting

There isn’t a huge amount that I like the look of over the course of Saturday and while I’m not one for betting the early kick off too much I am very much a strike while the iron is hot sort of punter and with that in mind it is hard to go against Newcastle United here. AFC Bournemouth have had a tough week having had a trip to Chelsea on Tuesday night and then suffering a late heartache and now they have to kick off at the other end of the country in the early game against a rampant side.

Newcastle have won their last nine matches in all competitions and have a front three who are in excellent form. The big issue for Bournemouth in this one is the amount of injuries that they are carrying, especially in forward areas. There isn’t much left so if they have some tired legs the quality could soon drop off for the Cherries. Newcastle have plenty of firepower and were at home in midweek so don’t have all the travelling. They are a little short to back straight up but all of these nine recent Newcastle wins have had at least two goals in them and I’ll add over 1.5 goals to a Newcastle win to bump up the price to an acceptable level.
