The second Friday Night Football of the Premier League season has all the potential to be a cracking match as Chelsea host Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea should still be smarting from losing their 100% record at Swansea on Sunday while Liverpool looking menacing against Leicester on Saturday so this one is nicely set up.
Chelsea
Up until the hour mark at Swansea on Sunday the season could hardly have been going better for the Blues but then from nowhere they collapsed and although a late Diego Costa goal earned them a point in the end they will know from the chances they had in the first half of that match that it was two points dropped.
The positive from that match was how well Chelsea attacked and the likes of Oscar, Diego Costa and Eden Hazard in particular caught the eye. With the options they have on the bench this Chelsea side look much more exciting than ones which have gone before but if they are to challenge for the title they will need to sort out their defence.
Liverpool
You could say much the same about Liverpool really. They look awesome in attacking areas with the likes of Sadio Mane, Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino all showing their worth already this season. If they can find that attacking power on the road Liverpool will really threaten.
The slight doubt in the mind though is how easily they surrendered against Burnley in a previous away game but we saw at Arsenal in the opening week of the season that they can go anywhere and impose themselves. We saw in both matches just how inefficient they are defensively and that could be a major issue heading to Chelsea.
Team News
Chelsea will be without their captain John Terry for this match after he picked up an injury late on in the draw at Swansea on Sunday. With Kurt Zouma still unavailable it is likely that David Luiz will make a second debut in the game. Marcos Alonso will be hoping to feature.
Liverpool may well keep the same side which thrashed Leicester at the weekend although there has been talk that Dejan Lovren will return to the side to deal with the threat that Diego Costa provides. Lucas could be the one to make way for him after his howler against Leicester.
Betting
I’m expecting this to be quite an open game. I’m not sure at the minute that either of them can play any other way because neither are convincing anyone defensively so hopefully they will both have a go and this one will turn into the same sort of game as when Arsenal hosted Liverpool earlier in the season.
It is hard to see both sides not finding the net given how exposed they have been at the back so far this season and then both are likely to push for the winner which would set a marker down for the rest of the league over the remainder of the weekend.
Chelsea will go top with a win for at least 24hrs while Liverpool can move into the top four were they to win so there is enough reason why both will have a go here and with that I expect to see more than 2.5 goals scored.
