The final Premier League match before the FA Cup break looks like a potential cracker as Tottenham host Chelsea at White Hart Lane in a game which could have significant bearings on the top end of the table.
Both sides head into the match in good form which should add to the occasion. Tottenham lost the Premier League title against Chelsea last season so I’m sure a bit of revenge would be sweet.
Tottenham
A spate of draws was in danger of marring Tottenham’s campaign but they have come good recently and go into this match with four wins in a row. Admittedly they faced a woeful Watford last time out but the manner they won in and the confidence they oozed in winning certainly caught the eye and we know they will be up for this.
That good recent run means Tottenham will go up to third place in the table with a win here so they certainly don’t lack for motivation going into the match. Harry Kane and Dele Alli look to have found form again and that makes them a dangerous proposition for any side who are opposing them.
Chelsea
It has now been 13 wins on the trot for Chelsea but this will be their toughest test in that run. They have won their last five away matches with the concession of just the one goal although their last two away wins – at Crystal Palace and at Sunderland were only 1-0 wins. They might need more than that here.
The form of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa has been hallmarked this season but their defence has been amazing although Stoke showed on Saturday that it can be breached. Chelsea’s only two defeats this season have been to Liverpool and Arsenal so they might have something to prove against the top sides.
Team News
Tottenham will recall the rested Mousa Dembele to the side. Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen were suspended for the Watford win but they are able to return here. Erik Lamela remains out.
Chelsea will have Pedro back from suspension for this match. He tore Bournemouth apart on Boxing Day and Antonio Conte will hope he has that form with him here too. Nemanja Matic is likely to be recalled too.
Betting
This should be a great match but I can’t call the winner of it. A couple of weeks ago I would have taken Chelsea with some confidence but the way Spurs have hit form and confidence this one could now go either way I believe.
Although both sides have been the best defensively this season I think this one might go against that grain. They are also the third and fifth highest scorers in the division too and with Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa all in great form and the supply to them of the quality that it is I fancy we might see some goals here.
Eight of the last 11 matches between these two in all competitions have contained more than 2.5 goals and given the quality on show this one can do so as well.
