After a competitive opening set of matches the Ram Slam T20 continues on Wednesday when the Sunfoil Dolphins host the Highveld Lions in the second match of the tournament for both sides.
This will be a match between two teams who both won on the opening day of the tournament so whoever wins this will set the early pace in the table ahead of the next fixtures on Friday.
It was no surprise that the Dolphins scored powerfully in their win over the Titans in their opening match. They probably boast the most powerful batting line up in the tournament at present and they didn’t disappoint but for all the power they have in their batting they lack some quality with the ball and that will catch them out at times.
The Lions aren’t quite as powerful with the bat as their opponents here but they showed in their win over the Cape Cobras that they don’t need to be because they have a very solid bowling attack with two of the better spinners in the competition and that could be crucial as the tournament evolves and the end draws near.
I’m not surprised to see the Dolphins favourites here. They are the home side and their batting is scary but they may well struggle to score big off the likes of Aaron Phangiso and Eddie Leie not to mention Lonwabo Tsotsobe.
This is a classic battle between the batting power and the bowling mite and I always side with the bowlers in that battle. Although Kingsmead might not suit spinners the Lions have two very good ones who bowl lines hard to score from whatever the pitch does.
The Dolphins have the kind of batting line up where if someone goes big they can sneak over the line like they did in their opening match but I’m confident the Lions can control the run flow and get the job done here.
