Royal London One Day Cup – Wednesday 8th June Matches Betting Preview

The Royal London One Cup enters a fourth day of action on Wednesday as the group matches continue on a busy day with five matches being played. None of them are on TV sadly but that doesn’t mean to say we don’t have a betting opportunity still.

Tuesday recap

We were done by the rain on Tuesday as Middlesex looked to be cruising against Hampshire but once the rain arrived and altered the run chase there was probably only going to be one winner at that point sadly. In our other bet so dominant were Worcestershire that Ross Whiteley never even made it to the crease so Tuesday was a day to forget really.

On the field there were emphatic wins for Warwickshire, Derbyshire and Worcestershire over Leicestershire, Durham and Yorkshire respectively while Hampshire got the better of Middlesex thanks to the alteration to their run chase.

Wednesday North Group Matches

There are two matches in the North Group on Wednesday. Northamptonshire host Lancashire fresh off the back of that insane game of cricket on Monday while the other side involved in that match up – Nottinghamshire, welcome Warwickshire to Trent Bridge.

Northants showed all their fighting spirit in defeat to Nottinghamshire on Monday but in the cold light of day that might take some coming back from both from an emotional point of view and because of the injuries they sustained in that match which are keeping key players out of this match.

Richard Levi has been in excellent form in white ball cricket and he is missing with a shoulder injury he sustained while Rory Kleinveldt, the hero in defeat on Monday, is also out with injury. Olly Stone’s injury on Friday has been confirmed as a season ending one so it hasn’t been the best week for the Steelbacks.

Lancashire haven’t started the T20 as well as they would have liked but they had a very good win over Warwickshire in their only game in this tournament so far and they still have Jos Buttler at their disposal which could be important here.

Although Northants still have some power left in their batting line up there are two huge holes in it whereas Lancashire look pretty balanced. I’ll take the visitors to win this one.

Nottinghamshire triumphed in that match with Northants but you’ve got to think it is a concern that Northants can plunder 425 against their bowling attack. I’m pretty confident Nottinghamshire are going to find it much harder against this Warwickshire attack than they did against that Northants one too.

Warwickshire were well beaten by Lancashire in their opener in this competition but they bounced back to beat Leicestershire on Tuesday and it will have encouraged them that they won that match with Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell not needed at the crease. With that batting depth and the bowling strength they have I think they are dangerous here.

I’m not convinced Nottinghamshire are as good as they are being made out and while I’m not a massive fan of taking teams who played the day before at least it was a comfortable game for Warwickshire and hopefully won’t have taken too much out of them. If it hasn’t I can see them winning this one.

Wednesday South Group Matches

Three matches take place in this group on Wednesday. They are Glamorgan vs Sussex at Cardiff, Surrey vs Somerset at The Oval and Gloucestershire vs Middlesex at Bristol.

I’m tempted by Middlesex but that would involve going against the team who played the day before being jaded theory and it would be mad to do that twice especially as Middlesex had a little bit of traveling to do in between matches.

Surrey are probably the rightful favourites against Somerset but I’m in no rush to back them at the prices especially with the depth Somerset have in their batting. That has the feeling of a trappy looking match to it for me.

I do like the other match though where the odds might well be the wrong way around. Glamorgan have been going well in one day cricket in recent times and were far too good for the defending champions Gloucestershire in their only game in this competition this season.

Sussex were pretty easily beaten by Essex on Monday it must be said when a lack of depth with both the bat and the ball found them out. They’re a side that if their top order fires will be dangerous but it is asking a lot to fire against the quality of this Glamorgan bowling attack.

Glamorgan bat deep and they have a really strong seam attack especially and I can see them being hard to beat in this competition with that make up. At odds against I’ll chance the home side in this one.
