SA20 2023 – Pretoria Capitals vs Durban’s Super Giants Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the double header in the SA20 competition comes from SuperSport Park as the leaders Pretoria Capitals continue their regular season against a Durban’s Super Giants team who conclude theirs in this contest.

The Capitals have already qualified for the semi-finals and barring something strange they will top the table. Durban have to win this match to keep their campaign alive and they will probably need a bonus point win on top of that.

Pretoria Capitals

This has been a wonderful season for the Pretoria Capitals, but as is so often the case in these franchise tournaments they are having a few questions to answer at the minute. The first of those was how they would cope without Will Jacks and while they won on Saturday evening, they weren’t as convincing with the bat in his absence. There is a bigger question for them to answer here and that is how they will cope without their captain Wayne Parnell.

He picked up an injury in the win over MI Cape Town on Saturday night and there is no way he is getting back up to play less than 24 hours later. That brings about a third question of whether they can back up a performance the next day. That is never an easy thing to do at the best of times let alone when they were a little scratchy on Saturday. The one thing that we can be sure of is their bowlers are going very nicely and that might save them.

Durban’s Super Giants

This has been a pretty miserable campaign for the Durban’s Super Giants when you consider the personnel they have had to call upon in this campaign. They have just three wins from the eight matches they have completed and while they are not out of this competition they need a massive win here and some results to go their way in the early stages of next week. You would have to say that is unlikely but they have to make sure they do their bit first.

The big problem the Super Giants have had this term has been their bowling at the death. They just haven’t been able to stem the flow of runs at the end of the innings. Some of that has been down to not picking up wickets at the beginning of the innings and some has been some questionable bowling choices but however you look at it, it looks like it is going to cost them. They need a complete bowling performance and then their firecracker batters to deliver the goods here.

Key Players

Rilee Rossouw looked like he was hitting the ball nicely on Saturday evening but got out just as he was getting into a position to really take the bowling down. With no competitive pressure on his shoulders here he could do some real damage.

If Durban’s Super Giants are to win this match and pick up the bonus point that they need then you would imagine that Quinton de Kock will have to go big right from the outset in this match. He made 63 last time out and needs to push that on here.

Betting

Wayne Parnell looks like he is going to be a massive loss for the Pretoria Capitals here. He has barely gone for runs in any of his matches in this tournament, has led the team well and provides some batting depth to the team so that opens up an opportunity for the Durban’s Super Giants but I can’t really be backing a team for whom winning isn’t enough. They have to swing the bat at it and look to get the bonus point. I’m not one for backing teams who played the day before either though.

I think given the need for the Super Giants to score quickly and the fact that the Capitals have some big hitting batters who have no pressure on them in this match we should expect the trend of sixes on this ground to continue here. If Durban chase everyone will have the same intent and obviously if they bat first they will need to put up an enormous score. There’s more than enough hitting power in this match as well as the situational circumstance to think we will see more than 12.5 sixes in this game.
