Scottish Open Snooker 2022 Qualifying – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of action at the qualifying competition for the Scottish Open takes place on Monday when another 16 players take to the baize each looking for the four frames they need to book their spot in the second Home Nations main draw of the season.

The top 16 in the rankings when the draw was done for this tournament have had their qualifying match held over to the main venue but there are still some household names looking to make it through on Monday.

Morning Session

There are two matches in each session this week and as has been the case whenever we have had qualifying competitions there are Chinese players in both games in the opening session on Monday. Joe O’Connor is the highest ranked player on show in the morning and he will meet one of the Chinese players in Zhang Jiankang. Pang Junxu is an exciting Chinese prospect and he is also in action in the morning session. He has a date with Julien Leclercq for a place in the main draw.

Early Afternoon Session

Two more Chinese players are involved in the first of the two afternoon sessions and it is the Championship League finalist Lu Ning who is the highest ranked player on show here. He meets a Jamie Clarke who has done most of his best work late on in the last two seasons but he has a chance to ease the pressure on himself here. The other match looks a juicy one as Liang Wenbo will look to make it into the main draw. He takes on Oliver Lines who has only won one match this season.

Later Afternoon Session

Dominic Dale will be the leading player on show in the third session of the day on Monday according to the rankings. He headlines a session which offers the other three players the chance to improve their ranking. Dale meets Ken Doherty in the pick of the session. The other match at the same time sees Allan Taylor going up against Jenson Kendrick who will be hoping to take advantage of a kind draw to pick up a first win as a professional.

Evening Session

Two matches round off the day in the evening session and it is one where the highest ranked player on show across the whole day is in action. That player is the former world finalist Ali Carter and he will go up against David Grace. The other match is another one of those which pits two lower ranked players against each other with each having the chance to earn some decent ranking points when Lukas Kleckers goes up against Sean O’Sullivan.

Betting

Liang Wenbo has had a slow start to the season after his suspension at the beginning of it. He has only played one match in around six months and he lost that to Dean Young. That came a couple of months ago at the British Open qualifying so he is entitled to be very rusty. We know he is a confidence and rhythm player so he might well be there for the taking when he takes on Oliver Lines in the first of the afternoon sessions.

Lines hasn’t had the start to the season that he would have wanted but at least he has played a few matches. He has a win over Tom Ford to his name this term and was unlucky not to beat Mark King in the Northern Ireland qualifying. The other match he has played was against Ding Junhui and he was probably a fair outsider in that one. Lines has scored ok this season but has run into a couple of really good performances. There is no guarantee Wenbo will be anything like 100% here so I’ll take the Englishman to progress from this tie.
