Boxing Day was meant to be a nine match card in the Sky Bet Championship but the issues that many teams are having with Covid-19 means that has been reduced to three games as the Christmas period gets underway.
Although the initial TV game is one of the six to have been postponed, thankfully it was done early enough for another TV match to be put into its slot so we have one of those to enjoy on the main channel, with the other three on the red button.
Sunday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK TV in brackets)
Huddersfield Town vs Blackpool
Hull City vs Blackburn Rovers (Sky Main Event & Sky Football)
Middlesbrough vs Nottingham Forest

Preview
With the top two not in action on Boxing Day, Blackburn Rovers have the chance to move level on points with Fulham at the top of the table when they make the trip across the Pennines to take on a Hull City outfit who will be looking for some festive cheer to move away from the bottom end of the table. Three sides have the chance to move into the playoff places with a win on Boxing Day and two of those meet at the Riverside Stadium when Middlesbrough welcome Nottingham Forest.
The other of those teams are Huddersfield Town. They welcome Blackpool to the John Smith’s Stadium knowing that with a win they will end the day in the top six and ready to push on for the remainder of the season. Blackpool have had a good first half of the season and will be looking for a bit of extra Christmas cheer to round off a wonderful 2021 for them overall.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the afternoon on Sunday and that comes in the televised action where I expect Blackburn Rovers to have too much for a fairly limited Hull City side. There has been enough this season to suggest that Hull City can compete against the lower sides in the competition but against the better ones I think they are easily outclassed and Blackburn are certainly playing to that level right now.
Blackburn have won their last five matches and only lost one in their last 10, which was against Fulham on a night that if it could go wrong it did. Rovers are the best team in the league in terms of points won at home but they have won three of their last four matches away from home, two of which were at Stoke and Bournemouth which are tough places to go. Blackburn are well on the up while Hull have levelled out again. If there is a winner here I expect it to be Tony Mowbray’s men.
