Big Matches
The televised action comes from Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon when Fulham look to get their season back on track after the walloping they took at Coventry last time out. They host west-London rivals QPR in a pretty big match for both sides. There is another big match at the top end of the league on Saturday too. That sees AFC Bournemouth making the trip to Ashton Gate to take on a Bristol City whose fans could be forgiven for not remembering the last time they saw their team win at home given how long it has been.
Best of the Rest
Coventry City could end the day level on points at the top of the Championship if they pick up all three points from their trip to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers while two sides who have promotion ambitions this term meet at Bramall Lane where Sheffield United take on Stoke City. At the other end of the table, Derby County will look to close the gap between themselves and the safety zone when they head to Deepdale to take on Preston North End while Peterborough and Barnsley, the other two sides in the bottom three, have away trips to Middlesbrough and Reading respectively. Hull City are just outside the relegation zone and they head to Huddersfield Town.
Betting
There is a lot of action in the Sky Bet Championship over the next week or so and I’ll go with the one bet on Saturday to ease my way in. That comes from the Madejski Stadium where Reading host Barnsley in a match I expect to see a home win in, although given that we are just out of another international break, I will take the necessary draw cover, which actually is probably needed in this division at the minute anyway given the insane number of draws there has been in it.
I don’t think this one will be a draw though, even though I want it kind of onside. Barnsley have been one of the worst teams in the league this season. They have won the least amount of games of anyone in the league and are the lowest scorers in the league, which probably isn’t a great statistic when they head to a Reading team who are the sixth highest scorers in the Championship this season. Reading go into the match having won four of their last five, whereas Barnsley have lost their last three and are not offering much going forward at all. Barnsley have the lowest xG in the whole league and only Peterborough have a worse xGD in the division. Reading don’t win many matches on xG but they score a lot of their chances. I think they’ll have too much for Barnsley here, whose manager is going to be under even more pressure come full time.
