Big Matches
The televised action comes from the Madejski Stadium where events off the field are threatening to ruin the Reading season. They sit just in the bottom half of the table heading into their clash with Middlesbrough but an impending point deduction will see them move to the second from bottom spot so there is plenty to play for where the Royals are concerned. Pressure is beginning to mount on Neil Warnock at Middlesbrough so they need a win. Two sides could finish the day in top spot with AFC Bournemouth going back to the summit if they can beat Luton Town at the Vitality Stadium but if they don’t then Fulham will move back to pole position if they win against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Best of the Rest
A point deduction has already come the way of Derby County after they made their way into administration so their need for points is an obvious one. They head to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United who need to keep winning themselves. Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers begin the day inside the top six and both have home matches as they bid to stay there. Stoke host Hull City while Blackburn welcome Cardiff City to Ewood Park. The Steve Cooper era begins at Nottingham Forest when they host Millwall while Swansea City will look to build on their fine comeback last week when they take on Huddersfield Town at the Liberty Stadium.
Betting
There isn’t a lot that I like over the course of the afternoon but there is one bet I’m happy to take which comes in the match I’ll be at as AFC Bournemouth host Luton Town in a contest which I’m fairly certain will contain plenty of goals. Luton matches this season have been pretty free scoring. Two of their last three matches have ended 2-2 and 3-3 so they are not averse to goals at either end and Bournemouth are certainly capable of taking advantage of the defensive injuries the Hatters have at present.
Luton are prepared to give it a go wherever they play these days though and they do carry a goal threat with the amount of attacking options they have so I’m expecting lots of goal action in this one. Luton games average more than three goals a match and the last time they faced a Scott Parker side, when he was in charge of Fulham, there were six goals and five in the two games that season. Bournemouth have had five games so over 2.5 goals this season and I suspect this will be a sixth.
